As a curiosity, in the manga and the novel it is implied that Meimei fell in love with Lakan, but still decided to sacrifice her opportunity to go with him so that he and Maomao's mother could be together.

I suspected that what they would do with Lakan was have him just be mildly incompetent once he was shocked to see Jinshi (who he didn’t recognize because face blindness + different clothes) carry Maomao out of the ceremony. I buy that Maomao dislikes him because Luomen would praise him, making a young Maomao jealous, but as she got to know more about him he must strike her as unimpressive, further exacerbating her jealousy because she feels that he squanders unearned gifts.

We also don´t know how the Babies got swapped and who was in on it. Especially how the former empress was involved and how she reacted when her actual child died. ... Also, it´s not really similar, but if you want a well written story, i always recommend "Ascendance of a Bookworm".

I don’t necessarily think she baby trapped lakan because that convo between them “I was just thinking I wanna play go” and him responding with “funny, I was just thinking I wanted to play *whatever tf the other game was*” was symbolism of the “I hope it’s a boy” “I hope it’s a girl” convo most expecting couples have so like- they both were in it together
