I don't think Stephen is belittling people who believe or have faith/ religion.. I do think he's very passionate and upset with horrible things that happen in the world in the name of religion.

Stephen Fry is not ‘cruel’ at all. He has his beliefs and he allows people to have theirs, it’s comedy, it’s a joke, take it as such. Ridiculous.

Fry is one of the kindest "Public Atheists" out there. Often making sure to say that people should be free to have their personal beliefs as long as they don't force them on others. He does however, as a gay man, get terse with people when they start telling him how to live his life, and how he is doomed to hellfire, damned as a sinner for the form of love he acts out in his daily life. But can you blame him for that? it's a hell of a thing to be told. And by people who aren't happy to keep their beliefs personal, but wants them legislated. Put into law. By a goverment. This shit isn't theoretical. He has been fighting for gay marriage since before that was legal in the UK. And there are plenty people out there who think we should reverse that particular move. I'd say what i think of those people but youtube might censor me for foul language.

I would tend to disagree with the statements about Fry belittling religion and those who practise it. From everything I’ve seen, he’s extremely kind and open about it and how much he loves the culture of church and the stories of religion. His only problem with religion is how people use it to justify war, bigotry and crime. The most heated I’ve seen him about religion isn’t about the people who practise it but rather the distress it causes to people who were forced to believe in it throughout history. Tbf most of his problems with religion are to do with the damage it can cause. Not just "ha! You're dumb for having faith!" I don't like him for other reasons. But he has well constructed arguments against organised religions, not just shitting on them.
