Basically like in DnD Humanoids can pull off all job perks in enourmous amounts but don`t have race stuff, Demihuman have a bit of race shenanigans with a less job stuff. Heteromorphs much harder to play because you already need to think who you want. You won`t have much variety and your race push you to certain builds. Also as novel says there are little of beautiful Heteromorphs

Humans has the unique advantage of being able to put all their 100 levels to Job Classes unlike Heteromorphs and Demi Humans who needs to put some levels on Racial Classes because if they don't they're gonna be in a disadvantage. For example you choose Heteromorph and you want to be a demon. You need to level up Imp first then, Lesser Demon and subsequent demon racial classes because they would otherwise be stuck with the base stats, resistance and weaknesses of an Imp. Humans though already have a good base stats and no specific weakness, making them jack of all trades master of none. They basically start with 0 on all stats but for others like for example a demon, they start with positive stats towards what a demon is good at but with the penalty of negative stats on what they are weak at. TLDR; Humanoid classes more or less starts base and in the middle while Demi-humans and especially Heteromorphic classes starts specialized on the get go. Humanoid classes are good for players who are still starting, trying out and/or experimenting with character builds. They are also good for jack of all trades builds.

Variant humans in D&D get an extra feat, which kinda also works with how it works in Yggdrasil, you trade some of the default racial abilities for the flexibility of augmenting your class with additional skills.

This is why I love Overlord so much. We have lore and stories from 3 different worlds. the future world(Real World), Yggdrassil(game world) and the new world. All three worlds have so much lore and history its just amazing. OOn a side note. Choosing Demi humans and the character category had its own drawbacks. Whilst safe from PVP from humans and hetromorphs, and while enjoying similar benefits to humanoids, The demi human races had a much more weaker power base. As the content iterated, if humans got +2, hetro got +3 demi would get only +1. So they would always fall behind humanoids and heteromorphs in regards to raw power. Specially when it comes to racial skills.

thanks to the internet being very strict in Ainz`s original world, the information wouldn`t be spread around quickly and that allowed for a lot of secrets remaining hidden. thats why the game was not fully explored, people had to defend their land and also explore totally unknown and dangerous places, just thinking about it makes me excited as a gamer, but I really don`t want to give away my freedom for it, lmao.

We actually know how strong Ainz was. He's stated it in the light novel. Among level 100 players. They could be divided in 9 ranks. Lower, middle, upper, then low, mid, high. Ainz said he was in the mid middle. Reference, Touch Me would be in the high upper players.

Humanoids and Heteromorphs are the two extremes of what you can build. With a Heteromorph, you have to level up your race, your stats increase or decrease depending on what you pick and it limits the levels you can put into classes and what classes are even available. Whereas with humanoids, your stats are balanced and you can pick any class you want. Allowing for more balanced builds. Here's an example : With a heteromorph, you can make the very strongest sniper available. Strong enough that you could kill anyone with a single shot from a country away. But if anyone catches you, you are very dead. So you have to plan and pick your fights wisely, or be part of a good team. Because if you get countered, you can't do anything. With a humanoid, you can be an archer, warrior and healer mix that allows you to fight at any range and fight anyone. But you're just that, decent. It's for people who like to play so but can also fill any role in a group The main reason Nazarick was so powerful was that every single player was highly specialized and they planned every encounter like how real world strategists plan wars. Meaning they can fight much bigger guilds or dungeons with just 41 players

While it's cool to see people like this enjoying Overlord, it saddens me seeing some peoples reactions to the Overlord anime being meh, which again, really saddens me when I think about how bad the the anime adaption was for it, and many Overlord anime only fans won't truly experience all the magic the light novel series has to offer, since Overlord is love by many light novel fans for these primary reasons: 1)Main villain as a protagonist - Unlike most isekai shows where the main character is morally good for the most part, Ainz is UNDOUBTEDLY a villain, since one of his goals is to try to dominate this new world. For instance, in Season 1 when Ainz was prepared to murder Niferea in when his identity as Momon was almost found out. Another example, is the UNPROVOKED attack on the lizard men led by Ainz in season 2 that cost countless lives for their species, and it was all done for experimentation for Ainz, it's also worth keeping in mind that the ONLY reason that Ainz decided to show mercy to the Lizardmen was due to Coctyus's request, which led to the situation we are in now where the Lizardmen aren't following Ainz now out of love, but fear, since they know first hand what he and his army of Nazarick are capable of, and we see more of that fear being shown from them in the later volumes. Next, is the attack on Re Estize kingdom led by Demiruge, which again, similar to the Lizardman was an UNPROVOKED attack led by Ainz crew that caused the death of not only countless soldiers of the kingdom, but men AND children as well. Heck, Demiurge kidnaps women and FORCES them to cross breed with other species for experimentation, which is essentially rape, and Ainz will NEVER actively punish him for it, since in the Light Novel he's stated time and time again that the denizens of Nazarick will ALWAYS have more value then the people of this new world. So here we have protagonist that's caused genocide for his own SELFISH reasons, and will CONTINUE TO DO SO in future arcs, and has subordinates that aren't above doing more bad things, such as rape ( Demiurge, and Shalltear fall into this rape category, though over 90% of the denizens of Nazarick are evil beings that enjoy the suffering of humans, just don't rape them with a few exceptions like Sebas who is morally good) so all this effectively makes Ainz a dictator on the same level as Hitler. However, what seperates Ainz from MANY other villains in fiction is that he isn't one dimensional as we see the man show compassion for those around him, even if it's primarily reserve with those in Nazarick, and he also has flaws in the fact that he struggles to be a competant leader for them, Making him a complex villain, up there with Griffith. It's a change of pace to what I usually see and it's glorious. 2) Foreshadowing- Many of the major events are set up in earlier parts of the story like how Ninya's death at the hands of Clementine played a role in Ainz rare act of compassion to someone outside of Nazarick in sparing Tuare is a great example of this. And there were many foreshadowing threads in season 3 season that will play a MAJOR role in future arcs, Seriously, I'll never forget reading the predictions people made in earlier volumes, with MANY of them being spot on in the more recent volumes due to all the seeds the author planted in those earlier volumes, which is great story telling. 3) world building- I could write an essay on how much world building was axed from the anime, and I don't know where to start so I won't bother lol. Personally I feel the anime fails at most of this since ALOT of the character moments are either brushed over or are outright glossed over, and that's in addition to skipping MANY of the world building elements. You KNOW it's bad when whenever there's a reaction video of Overlord on youtube, you have people in the comments of said videos writing LITERAL paragraphs explaining what was skipped on EACH episode, not as a whole season, and episode per video. It's bad. Then there's the animation itself, which there isn't much to speak of, and that's not even mentioning the god awful CGI. Overall, a terrible adaption, which is a shame because the light novels are so good, and REALLY dark in terms of tone, for instance, like going into more detail about Demiurge's breeding experiments ( many of the denizens of Nazarick are aware of this by the way, they just don't care that he's doing it, since they consider humans to be inferior to them), and Shalltear's weird and horrifying sexual fantasies ( she enjoys sexually assaulting women), or Ainz lack of sympathy for humanity as a whole, and how that's explored when he commits genocide. And the books go into far more detail on all of this. It's to the point that I feel that anime fans, and light novel fans are getting entirely different experiences.

thank you for this. Others have suggested I read some of the light novel, and I appreciate your response here. It's definitely piqued my interest even more.

Hello, Lauren. This is a sincere question and I apologize if this is taken wrongly; but why don't you just read the light novels from book 1 to book 11? You'd get some much more content and context for the movie, which begins from the events in book 12.
Now THIS is entertainment! 🤣
