Laurens Woven Tops Round Up - Sewing patterns I've made and garments I wear

Following on from my popular post featuring all the button down shirt and blouse patterns I’ve made over the years, I wanted to do a similar thing with all the different top patterns I’ve made too.
Making tops that you can easily pull on and off over your head are a great project, especially if you are still early on in your dressmaking journey as there are no fiddly zips, button holes or other fastenings to worry about.
There are probably hundreds of different designs out there, with more and more patterns being released all the time, so in no way will this little collection be representative of all the styles that are out there.
Instead with this video, my aim is to help you to interpret the technical drawing that you see in a pattern and get to know how that will transfer to an actual garment. Learning how to do that, along with increasing your understanding of what different types of fabrics actually look like sewn into garments, it should really help you to visualise what the end garment will be like.

Love this! I wish I watched it before I sewed a boxy top with a crisp cotton. 😄 I'm quite busty so I look like a chunky robot when I wear it. I still like it under a cardigan, but it wasn't the look I had in mind.

I love your round up! I really like your version of Nicks tops. I have my eyes on this pattern but found it too "bulky". Your versions are so gorgeous! I think that the Sewaholic Belkarra would make a lovely dress too!

Now that I am making a few garments that match ones I actually would have purchased for myself, and do understand a bit more about sewing patterns and fitting, this video you present is especially helpful. You make sense of it all with inspiring examples. Sometimes the patterns that present a drawing on the cover or a photo of the garment without a person wearing it, make it difficult for me to see whether it would look well on me. That’s where you step in to elucidate the structure and best fabrics. I had watched your videos before when I had less knowledge and was inspired to keep trying. I have made a few of the Grainline Willow, too. It’s one of the properly fitting garments that finally made sense to me. Thank you.

Love this! Thanks so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge Lauren. I love the Saguaro but my wearable toile is made in a seersucker with very little drape so the sleeves stick out 😅 I think I can tweak it so I'll wear it but will definitely go for a viscose or viscose/linen for my actual set.

Great informative video. The top you are wearing suits you really well. The print -as gorgeous as it is - can also look quite dated with the „wrong“ pattern choice. But on you it looks really modern. After a few years of sewing (attempts), I am only now getting better at picturing the final look of a garment.
