I love the contrasting differences between the two voices that blend and harmonize so well. Tanya has that lower beefier register but yet she can blow (as seen in the end of this movie in Joyful Joyful and Ain't No Mountain High and Lauryn Hill's naturally seemingly higher voice that just flutters effortlessly through high notes. I feel like they're both mezzo sopranos. I used to watch this movie over and over again JUST to hear Tanya and Lauryn's voices. I wish I could find a video that isolates the individual voices when they sung joyful joyful in that trio in 1993 with the "Come and Join The Chorus, The Mighty Mighty Chorus part. Thats probably my favorite part in that song.

Tanya is a soprano. She just has a bit more weight than Lauryn and it’s not as agile. Lauryn’s bottom range is fuller than Tanya’s with her being a mezzo. Hers is also husky

Oh and that ‘come and join the chorus” part was all TANYA 😩!🎉 They just stacked her voice. That’s my favorite part too
