Penn State's hopes were destroyed in 99, just five years removed when Utah's undefeated season has ended by New Mexico in 1994

The West has always been a notch down from the East. Any B1G team can beat any B1G team on any given night though. Penn State can go all the way if they study and execute.

Gophers coach Glen Mason had tremendous respect for Lavar's ability to block kicks that he had his kicker in practice have to kick over a ladder to make sure he would get height on his kicks. Delaying the snap helped to prevent penetration. The other game referenced was two years prior, in 1997, when PS was #1 and had to overcome a 15-3 deficit to beat MN, which finished 3-9. I had to work that day in '97, so I don't remember too many details. MN had to settle for too many FG's as well as some bad officiating that benefited PS. It was so bad that PS coach Joe Paterno visited the Gopher locker room to tell them they should have won that game. The MN performance in '97 gave me optimism for the '99 matchup.
