I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Legacy league with an 8 Cast build taking advantage of Lavaspur Boots from Outlaws of Thunder Junction. This new card will make Urza's Saga decks absolutely insane, as the construct tokens can now attack a turn earlier. 8 Cast is a mono blue artifact deck that is poised to become strong in this new metagame post OTJ. Old favorites like Emry, Kappa Cannoneer, and Patchwork Automaton see play alongside the new Lavaspur Boots.

At the end of g2 in round 3, you could've played petal, sacked it to float blue, then replay it with Emry to play kappa a turn earlier which would've let you stabilize with 8 unblockable lifelink next turn (unless your opponent plays a second bog ofc, which is somewhat likely considering how freely they fired the first)

@@ajax4709 makes sense. I haven't seen a list with that in it but I'm sure they're out there. There's an obvious conflict with dress down but easy to work around. I'm sure that build will gain popularity with the introduction of the new greaves

Phenomenal card, I've been testing this in modern saga/boom. I thought Lost Jitte would be the takeaway card from this set but getting to haste the second Urza construct is just insane. Jitte was kind of underwhelming and felt redundant next to Shadowspear.

Round 3 Game 1 29:50 why not shadowspear before the emery? It makes your saga tokens bigger, exists for affinity/improvise draws, and (in hindsight) allows for an easier equip to construct to set you above 20 against a possible marit lage

Also want to add, at least in modern I've been getting a lot of mileage running 1 of exped map to chain a saga into another saga (or in saga/boom specifically to find an indestructible land for boom/bust). This might not be quite as ideal in legacy, but in a removal heavy modern meta, saga tutoring for another saga is absolute value town and I don't get why more decks don't utilize this.

You see it in decks that have other valid lands to search for (e.g. Lands). The opportunity cost is a little high when it comes at the expense of other good tutor targets like Pithing Needle or graveyard hate.

I avoided running it for a long time thinking I couldn't spare the slot, but now seeing it as a 5th copy of Saga AND also a rebuy, for just 1 slot, it just feels really nice to me (in modern). I think it could be better than people think in the average saga list. Anyways, love what you do. Thanks for the thoughts Dr. Thrab.

27:00 Keep a hand based on Emry > instantly lose as that Emry died. A hand that does nothing but Emry is NOT a keep. If you're in 5, fine, but at any other time, an Emry with no backup plan as a plan to lose.

It's called Lavaspur boots. The art does not show boots with a spur that is in anyway lava. Unless it's supposed to be the whole boots are made out of hardened lava which is just really stupid. I can see them now at the design proccess on the White board "What do we think of with cowboys?" "Guns?" "No!" "Dry climates!" "Let's work on that. What words are associated with that?" "Hot? And Lava is hot." "Yeah and cowboys where boots lets have boots made of lava"

How viable is Lavaspur Boots on Stoneforge? You could hypothetically fetch and then cast them, equip to get Stoneforge active immediately, and put something that was already in your hand into play. That's a little bit mana intensive, but it COULD be sweet as hell

I mean, 2 for stoneforge, 2 to cast and equip boots, 2 to activate. That's more expensive than casting batterskull and only 1 cheaper than casting Kaldra Compleat so I'm not sure it's going to be very worth it. Could still be okay if you want the boots for other things though.

If you hit two more 0 drops you could have swung for 16 which would have been lethal on an attack at your current life total! I am of course kidding but I agree Lava Spur Boots raises the power level of Urza's Saga considerably.

Also if you only have one creature and it already has greaves on it you can’t equip it with anything else since you can’t remove the greaves that give it shroud
