First race in the 2015 British Historic Racing BEARS series for the old Laverda Jota.
It was my first outing with the novice jacket amongst the big boys

In the early 80s Montjuics were much quicker round Cadwell than Jotas. Only place Jotas and 900SS Ducatis did well was Snett where they galloped down the straights.

Having raced Montjuïc's, SFC750s and Jotas round both Cadwell and Snetterton, I can confirm you are 100% correct !

Was there a racer back in the late 70s early 80s called peter davies who raced a jota with a bit off success ?

You have a great memory! PK Davies was a very accomplished rider and I can only dream of riding a Jota like he did. His son and grandson came over to see my Montjuic at Mallory park a few years ago - what a lovely family.

As Peter Davies could tell you, the powerband on a Jota only comes in above the end of the red-line ! They are just slow and heavy below that. Still, a nice Sunday ride with the lads and no speed cameras to worry about !

Mmmm, that’s why we have a gearbox. Hold the lower gear and row it along. I have a Morini 3.5 and that’s the only way I can get speed out of it. Barely sounds like the Jota is being rowed along - lot of short-shifting. Maybe that dodgy clutch had an impact…

Superb track and a glorious soundtrack (even with the clutch-slip). I have just revived one of Roger Winterburn's Spondon Jotas - it feels like a waste to keep it as a road bike. I wonder if I can still fit inside my leathers . . 🤔

I got Roger to work on this bike after that season, and she ran beautifully for the next two years. Lovely. Enjoy the Spondon !
