People who are commenting that they don’t agree, or don’t understand, it’s not for you to understand. There are many things in life I don’t understand or believe in but that doesn’t mean I put other people down, or act ignorant. I keep an open mind. Because I want to live a peaceful and fulfilling life.

This is horrible, super sad. We really are living in a garbage world that treats people with such anger and disrespect. The documentary is very good to open the eyes of us, who don't have much contact with the community. I hope this kids mother accepts him sooner or later. The little 12 yo girl, aww so cute!

I'm crying. This was so beautiful just like every person in this video. It breaks my heart that transgender people are victims of hate crimes and rape and horrible things like that. A transgender girl at my school was attacked with a knife. Luckily, she survived and got away before anything bad happened. However, the attacker was only suspended for a week. He should be expelled.

I hate how some people “represent” the church by being so negative. Right or wrong you don’t treat a child like that, or anyone for that matter. 😢 People don’t realize words hurt, and when you say things to people you make them mad at you and I’m sure Christ wouldn’t treat any sinner so harshly like that. We all have to do better and be a light of the world and teach with patience and truth to others. God bless all of you & i want everyone to know that Jesus is calling all of us and wants a relationship with ALL ( cis/trans/ w/e) of us so that we can be in the Heavenly Father’s Kingdom soon ❤️

I worked in a Clothing Store, and whenever a trans woman came in....I automatically felt on guard for them. Almost over protective. I was a manager, and knowing the crowd my company served (catty teenage cis-gender girls in Orange County California) I never wanted these women to feel left out in what is usually a hyper-feminine woman's safe haven (shopping). When I tell you the look of absolute delight on their face when I would help them (i.e finding out what kind of outfit they were looking for, actually working together to make outfits, picking out accessories) it would literally warm my heart. I am so into girl power, and girls watching out for each other, but this extends to trans-girls too. I loved this documentary, and the threat against trans people is absolutely an epidemic, and needs to be classified as one.

It’s okay to not go through with it too. I know some non-binary friends that chose not to I have surgery and they are making their way through life. Do what makes you feel safe, happy and whole. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do. If it makes you feel whole, do it. If you still have questions, you can take your time too. There is no rush unless you feel you need to do this now. I hope your journey is a fulfilling and happy one either way. ♥️

I would be so proud if my future child ended up a letter of the LGBTQUIA. Being trans and non-binary myself (I go by they/them pronouns) my coming out was slow and awkward and at some times definitely excruciating and painful at times. My mom didn’t understand what was going on with me and ended up accidentally locking me into the proverbial closet a few times. If I have a kid who is more like me (currently: non-binary two-spirit they/them, somewhere in the middle of the Kinsey scale toward bisexual, polyamorous and demisexual [shout-out #DemiMoore and Savage x Fenty Demi cups, lol]) I want to be able to help them explore who they are so the world doesn’t define it for them as much as it’s been defined for me as a female-presenting person. 💜💖🖤💙♒️♊️☦️💟☮️

Hubris how is being gay harmful? I’m asking your opinion, respectfully. I can understand why approving hormones for young children before they’re brain and hormones are done forming - you can make that argument, I suppose. But I don’t get why it bothers you if someone is gay? If it’s religious-based opinion, 100% of Christians live in sin and God asks you to not pass judgement. So why are you actively living in your sin, my friend?

I am not brave. I am simply standing on the shoulders of those like the people in Compton cafeteria or Stonewall. I am not brave, bravery something that happened in the 60s when you would be arrested for simply going out of your house in drag. I am not brave. There a laws today that state if you are to discriminate against transgender individuals you can be arrested and of fired. I am not brave. Even if the minds of those in a small southern town are changing because of tireless researchers on the subject since before I was bore. So no, I am not brave, I am simply standing on the shoulders of giants.

this was so educational. I feel like trans-women are more at risk for violence after revealing if they want to be with a man. men, I think, think it "makes them gay" that they are attracted to or didn't know right off the bat that the woman they are with/want to be with was "born a man". thank you for all this important information!

Finally time. So excited and scared for you, young trans people! As a gay the only weak comparison I can make is a young gay in the 70s - to live on the cusp of such an historic time. Enviable, terrifying, unimaginable. Cannot wait to watch you infiltrate and dominate these spaces, piss *everyone* off, and get those rights! Also more than curious to see what the numbers look like when you all start really coming out.

This is my favorite documentary I understand everyone in this world now I don't know who or what I am I'm just a male with an unidentifiable sexuality, I love everyone and everything on this world and its so wrong how some people have so much hate it doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what you have, your personality is what really matters and I don't want to be around a hateful person do you honestly expect someone to love you note for being like this like why can't you get that through your head!?! I have been questioned on how I feel about the transgender community for example: "would you care if you were dating someone for a long time and they came out to you as a trans?" No I would not I don't see them any different than the person I love, I really want to make an impact on this world. I will support anyone on what the believe in. I love you! And thank you Laverne Cox for presenting this wonderful documentary! I'm in tears.

Hi Josefina...thanks for your sentiments. Kye and I agree to disagree on some topics. However, at the end of the day, as Kye mentioned in the documentary, our relationship supercedes anything else. I love Kye and always will until I take my last breath. It was also a joy to meet the other cast members. We engaged in an aftershow that was aired shortly after the documentary, and it allowed each of us to give a deeper perspective. It's not easy at all to embrace change but I try each day to do what God guides me to do. Always speak the truth with grace and love!

@@drroschmidt9180 Stop making Kye's transition about yourself!! HE said he is a man, so he is. Yes you birthed him and that will never change no matter what his gender is! Don't you see your behavior and refusal to call him by his gender hurts him? Even in your response, you didn't refer to Kye with male pronouns. What kind of mother doesn't do absolutely EVERYTHING to make their child happy?! It's not hard to use the correct pronouns when talking about him. Stop being selfish. You're mindset is transphobic and while Kye will never say this to you because he loves you, I will say it because you are hurting that poor child. You're going to push him to the brink because he will feel so isolated that he might hurt himself and that would be 100% YOUR fault. My heart breaks for Kye and it's sad you can see how much pain HE is in yet you won't change your ways... Why does a stranger have your SON'S best interests in mind more than you, his own mother? Take time to educate yourself, research and more than that, just LISTEN TO KYE!!! Stop being ignorant and transphobic.

Having a child who is trans is much better than losing your relationship with them or even worse losing them completely, people really need to learn to love and appreciate what they have before its too late.

When this originally came out in 2015 it gave me the courage to come out myself. I was 22 at the time and already dressing very masculine. Had been since I was 13 and had honestly socially transitioned but just hadn't placed a name on it. I knew the name I had since an episode of 20/20, with a transman who had a wife and family, when I was 8. He was happy and healthy and going for bottom surgery. But back to Ms Lavern Cox and this documentary. Because of you MTV I am alive. After I finally came out it took me three months to get on T and have been on it for two and a half. Six months after T I found out I had PCOS and that I had had it since my first puberty. So I had to have a hysto and overectomy three months later I had my mammogram for top surgery and found out that if I wasn't having top surgery I would have had to go in for biopsy. Turns out at 24 I was precancerous for breast cancer, and the findings of my hysto came back saying I was precancerous for cervical and ovarian cancer the cysts that I had were made of cancer. In a lot of ways you saved me MTV. Because you helped me make my first step into surgical transition. I am really glad that I can tell you that. -Logan

Sage Casey Ok. I'm not going to step out of character to address your reply. It was an honest oversight, and I obviously wasn't trying to offend anyone. The fact that you chose to correct someone that you don't even know with the use of profanity and a condescending attitude really shows how mature you are. Again, I meant no offense in my comment. A small error and your negative response will not stop me from being an advocate of civil rights for transgendered men and women. Thanks!

Us trans people can get seriously defensive, after hearing this kind of thing our whole life it can be hard to be diplomatic sometimes. I understand that you're doing your best to be supportive, and that's awesome(!!), but a couple small errors to some can be very hurtful and offensive to others, thus the occasional lashing out. It's really nice to see an exchange not end in threats on this comment section good on everyone for relatively keeping it down over here ^__^

I am a cis female and I have faith in the next generation. Our parents and grandparents may refuse to see the TRUTH and accept it, but in 2050 (I'm really reaching here) Our children and grandchildren will think of LGBTQ as normal as straight because of shows like this and how WE raise them and what we teach them. This is only the beginning. Thanks MTV

I agree that people should be treated the same but if LGBTQ was as normal as being straight then the world population will go down massively. The way we were created for a female and male is so we can reproduce.

Magestic_snowflake212 That doesn't sound like the worst thing in the world. Even if 50% of the world were gay and 50% we're straight the human race would still never go extinct. It would also probably completely eliminate the possibility of over population. This is why I always say the excuse intolerant people give about humans all dying out if more and more people accept being gay is absolute bull shit. It's never going to impact our lives to a drastic point. Too many babies are born all over the world every day.

I'm 14 now.... Me as 5: Boy's clothes played with the trucks and blocks during playtime at school. Played with all boys. Me as 7: always tried to get away with not wearing a shirt and didn't. Always told my mom I'm a boy. Me as 12: starting puberty and watching videos on trans people and realising that's me. Came out. Me now: Out and I have a male haircut using male pronouns and name. I'm happier now. There is a lot more stuff I've done as a kid that scream "TRANNY" but it's a lot to share.

This particular documentary is powerfully multifaceted and beautifully poignant in the information and how the information is conveyed, but from a purely human standpoint I couldn't help but be touched on so many levels by the little girl's comment at 11:25 -not focused so much on the context of religion in the statement but even more so on the much larger message underlying it, which is the simplicity of how powerful unconditional love is when brought to these children by those they love from the start in shaping their experience of themselves in their journey and their lives and how every child (and every human) deserves that same unconditional love so much.
