As Lavinia waits outside in freezing Irish weather, her irate father makes a series of increasingly urgent phone calls to find out where Edward is…

Seriously the brides father had to track down the drunk groom in a pub and “beg” him to show up to marry his daughter. My dad would have told him to stay in the pub and to hit the road. A Canadian city near me has a quaint, picturesque little church every couple wants for their wedding. It’s extremely in demand and is booked more than a year before the actual date. Weddings are literally lined up - back to back - due to its popularity. As a guest leaves a wedding, other bridal parties can be seen waiting in vehicles to enter the church for their own ceremony. If you’re late by ten minutes, you’re simply out of luck and lose your deposit. Watching these couples arrive late, looks so disrespectful to the clergy. In my opinion, it’s just good manners to be on time but maybe I’m old fashioned! 🤷‍♀️

@@shanettebatista1729 more likely it’s because they’re trapped. Some of these women can barely read competently because they were removed from school as young as 12 and before that age, they might have changed schools every few months due to the parents traveling for work. They don’t have many options for how to support themselves if they leave their husbands. All they’ve been trained to do is cook, clean, and care for children. On my wedding day the officiant warned us that if either of us was in any way impared before the ceremony she would not marry us. We needed to be of sound mind and be fully present going into our union. I kind of thought that was standard. We drank at our reception and had a whole bunch of fun dancing with each other and our families. It was definitely a great party, but marriage is a legal contract, one you are not supposed to sign if you are impared. We are both from cultures known for heavy alcohol consumption. I'm Irish and my husband is polish on one side and Ukrainian on the other side. It's not about tradition and culture. Being sober for your ceremony is about respecting your partner and the union you make with them on that day. If you can't show up sober you don't actually want to be married.

What about the 'cat women feminism' creates? Women between 40-60 who live alone and are childless? They have a reasonable career but have sacraficed family life in the persuit of it and aren't necessarily any happier as a result. There's a balance. People shouldn't be getting married younger than 25 imo, so the groom in this video is too young as well but where people delay marriage etc too long, especially as they get older and end up alone, they may well regret it.

These poor little girls have to grow up so fast, in order to get married, make babies and clean. The only time they have to party and experience being teenagers, is when they are still tweens. Their skimpy little outfits are so obviously what a little girl thinks a grown woman would wear to a nightclub. I wonder what amazing things they could contribute to the world if they were allowed to finish high school and choose a profession. 😭

They don’t want her to marry so young to begin with, but for the groom to keep her waiting for an hour ON THEIR WEDDING DAY?! Not exactly a good start. What a shame feeling like having “a whole day to get through “ because of the dress. I’d have another dress for the reception. I’m a bit disgusted by the outfits and dance moves by the toddlers tbh… I do love the way they honour the dead. That’s beautiful, and perhaps a tradition others could take on.

The custom of teenagers getting married goes back a very long way in history. My own parents wed in the early 1940s when they were 19 years old. They met when they were 14 years old in grade 8. They were together and madly in love with each other until my mother passed away last year. Their birthdays were in the same year 5 months apart. A rare thing indeed and it is so sad for my father to live without her. They were so upset that both my sister and I are divorced. It was just something they could not understand. They were not religious, we rarely went to church. They were just very very lucky.

@@Destiny-jf5pb I absolutely agree with you. My mother and father lived in a very different time. My Dad left school in grade 8 and my Mother in grade 10. she got a job in a bank and he trained as mechanic. They bought a house at age 21 and had it paid off by the time they were 40. These are young teens especially the girls because they are so sheltered. They do have s lot of support from their families and their community. Even though it is hard for us to understand it is their culture. Another similar culture is the Mennonites with respect to young marriages and limited education. I met a Mennonite girl once who was 15 and had just given birth to her first baby. Her husband was at least 30. I just try not to judge anyone because I know how painful it is to be judged. I try to show everyone compassion and hope for the best for us all.

It used to be more common to get married young because people grew up quicker. Lots of people finished school at a young age and university wasn’t an option for many because it was too expensive. There wasn’t much else to do but get married at that point. But now there are many opportunities and kids aren’t forced to grow up so quickly and are allowed to have a childhood. It doesn’t make sense to force someone to marry young now when they have the opportunity to do so much more before settling down.
