I love St. Augustine. It's a myth that they are the longest continually lived in City in America. In 1702 The British from my home town of Charleston SC sailed to St Augustine, occupied it after the city was abandoned and Burned it before returning to Charleston.

many of the older cities in the midwestern and more interior states are along waterways. Rivers, lakes etc. So they usually started as outposts for fur traders and missionaries, they might be far away from other cities but they were easily accessed by river.

You may be overestimating the size of Green Bay, WI because it has a football team. It's a mid-size city at best - there are 271 cities in the US larger than it. Just a little over 100k population.
@calvinsperberg3714
@calvinsperberg3714 17 күн бұрын
yeah the city of Green Bay in it's self is only that big, but the greater metro area is like 300k and if you include the fox valley which if you lived in a big city they would be included in the greater metro too. I mean look at Chicago, the greater Chicago metro extends into Wisconsin and Indiana, so it encompasses three states. Also look at a city like Tokyo, you always hear how it is the largest in the world, but Tokyo as a city is almost 14 million, yes a big city of course, but it's only when you include the surrounding areas in the Tokyo greater metro area do you get the 37 million + population that is the worlds largest. Still none the less, Green Bay is a small city...lol lived my whole life there before moving to Japan. haha But I do believe the Green Bay area is technically the 13th oldest European settled area in the US, which despite its small size is a cool historical fact.

I don't know where this guy got his information, but the original capital of colonial Maryland is St. Mary's City, founded in 1634 by Lord Baltimore and it is still the county seat of St. Mary's county. Annapolis did not become the capital until 1694.

Regarding California, Southern California tends to be older than Northern California because settlement came from establishments in Mexico which is to the south. So Southern California was settled for the most part prior to Northern California. Northern California may seem older but that’s mainly due to its importance/prominence during the gold rush of the mid 1800s when Northern California’s population started growing.

Maryland's oldest town still in existence where it is today is Saint Mary's. Pennsylvania's oldest town still in existence where it is today is Tinicum, located just to the north of present day Chester. Tinicum was founded by the Swedes. Nearby, the Dutch founded Uplandt, located just to the west of present-day Chester. Tinicum and Upland are still going strong. Philadelphia was founded by Penn after he arrived in New Castle, Delaware, received the "key" to the colony by the Duke of York's governor, sailed up the Delaware, landed at present day Chester. While in Chester, he laid out the plans for Philadelphia where the Delaware, Schuylkill, and Wissahicken Rivers met.

And my Great Grandfather and Great Uncle 5 back came to America and settled in Ohio in the early 1700's.... there were cities there before the one he named as the oldest. I think his info may come from known records and isn't taken into consideration that many towns lost their records because their court houses burn down and all records were lost. I advise taking this info with a grain of salt... some may be true and some not.

It's just that if you're going to do an "informative" video on a subject, I'd expect maybe they could put in a little time and effort to try to get things right. There are so many videos that are so horrible in that regard- showing a navy destroyer and calling it a battleship, showing a mountain that's actually in a different state, etc. It just feels like these people are all about churning out as much content as they can with as little work as they can get away with. He completely butchered most of the pronunciations. Mobile, Nacogdoches, etc (knack-a-doh-chez)

Don’t trust any of these pronunciations. I’m pretty sure he got more wrong than he did right. I really wish people would do a little research on correct pronunciations before putting incorrect information out into the world. The one from Washington (where I live) is Steilacoom pronounced Still-a-come.

No, you were both wrong pronouncing Natchitoches, Louisiana. It’s pronounced NAK-e-tish. Natchitoches is a beautiful, old city.

Interesting. Too bad he butchered the pronunciation of so many town and people’s names. Still, a good video.

I find it hilarious this kid still gets confused hearing English city names in the United States.. he knows that the English were here first.. And I've watched videos where He's heard these names before and then he hears them again in another video and acts shocked 🤦‍♂️ his memory is really that bad. Just to let you know there will be more.. I've even heard English people say why do you copy our city names? Lmaoo. Once again they'd like to say Americans are stupid when saying crap like that 😂 sounds like the other way around

Just the colonized and stolen lands that are that age. Many very very very old ones from the indigenous people.
