'Damocloids' are named after Damocles, the first such object found. That was named after the Sword of Damocles, an annecdote about a guy Damocles who commented on how much a king must love the life of luxury he lived, so the king offered to let him try it out. He set Damocles up with great food, drink, and servents while lounging on a comfy couch, but suspended a razor sharp sword above his head by a single horse-hair that could snap at any moment, so he would never know when death may suddenly drop on him. The guy got the point and begged to be excused. Basically, damocloids are the sword eternally hanging over our collective head.

The movie, Andromeda Strain, by Michael Crichton, was largely based on an account of ants carrying off deadly virus strains from a lab petri dish while scavenging the nutrient growth medium used to grow cultures. All the US CDC virology facilities have water breaks now, moats basically, to prevent a recurrence. But even yet, imagine a blood borne pathogen that was easily transmissible by mosquito? Swarms of flying hypodermics, if a virus could live. Terrifying.

This history behind it is really interesting and the sightings and reports of him are kinda scary tbh but the most creepy one is about the bridge that fell in point pleasant... Regarding the nuclear warheads. It's a balance of power, especially between Russia and the USA. They know that it's virtually impossible for them to win a nuclear war, so they won't initiate it. But neither wants to back down on their ammo of total destruction, cause that will signal a weakness.

17:00 The Columbian Exchange refers to the period in the American continents, after Columbus first sailed into the Caribbean, until the first European colonies began organizing themselves into nations. The Native people were being exposed to carriers of European diseases for the first time ever, and had no herd immunity for any of them. "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond explores this topic quite extensively, laying out explanations for why Europe subdued the Americas, and not the other way around.

Asking the pepole working on A.I. is the same as asking a car company when it first starts working on it's first car if it thinks cars are completely safe. Or better yet it's the same as letting the Tobacco companies for many decades tell you not only are cigarettes safe but are good for you. Never, by itself alone, use information or opinions from the pepole that have a vested interest in a thing or product. More often then not you will be misinformed or mislead.

My opinion on nukes: While I detest the level of destruction and the wasteful irradiation of useful land; I feel as though they do have a role to play in our world. As sad as it is, I feel like humans can't be trusted not to constantly be killing eachother in spectacular fashion without some sort of ex machina stopping them. There is an undeniable power in Mutually Assured Destruction, I'm just ashamed that we basically require a gun to our heads to play nice with eachother.

The one consolation I can give is that the chances of anything hitting earth are astronomically small (no pun intended). It's kind of like trying to hit a pinhead from multiple miles away. Of course, with enough things thrown at our general direction, eventually something will hit. But it's most likely going to be long, long, long after we'll all have passed.
