Not enough people talk about this stuff, thanks for not being another guy with a GoPro on the front of his mower and added crappy music. I always enjoy your videos!...In general, I agree with you except on the point that there are "only so many hours in the day". You can add crews to increase capacity and therefore available work hours to infinity. I price in the middle of my market so that we can grow at a decent clip but still retain profitability. This year we're adding a dedicated bed and bush crew so we can take advantage of suggestive selling opportunities more often. In theory, this should pad profits and increase our average customer value. We shall see...

Jonathan did a video on that too. When the time doesn't meet the price needed, beginning or mid-season you have to have a conversation with a customer explaining you have to reduce the time (somehow) or raise the price. If it can't be met, you let that customer go.

@@garrisonfamilyalbum3901 I remember him saying that but I think he just explaining in a general sense. I would not want to tell my customer that I have to figure out a way to cut time on the yard. I would do that prior to speaking with them to ensure I have done all I could on my end.

My daughter lives near DC in Virginia .... she pays 3 times what I pay in Iowa for about the same size of yard. If anyone tried to charge the VA price they would never get any work and if the Iowa yard guy charged Iowa prices in VA he would work 24/7 and still be broke.

Wow! $90 per man hour! That's unheard of here bro! Good for you 👍 I definitely agree the small properties are most profitable especially, when you have a minimum charge, no matter what size it is! My target yards here range from 7,500 sq ft - 15,000 sq ft (lot size) I have a minimum but, I charge a flat monthly fee of $100 per month for (these yards) for 9 months of the year. We service them 32 times and the average time is 15-20 min per yard. So, I can do 3 of them in an hour or less. So, that's $84 hour minimum if you do the math. Thanks for sharing!

@42swissmocha
@42swissmocha 4 жыл бұрын
The best thing you did, which was really smart, is getting customers to go every other week, that way their monthly bill is very competitively priced but you keep your per man hour very high. 45 per mow multiplied by 2x(average) per month is 90$ per month for lawn care, which is a very competitive price. Weekly lawn care at 45 would double the cost at 180 per month. So someone paying 25$ a week is paying on average 100$ a month which is more expensive than you at 90$ a month. Of course, you need more customers to make this model work but that is also more customers to upsell the extras to.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. They help out so much. How do you track time when you have houses stacked on top of each other? I usually try to do them individually, but when you have two to three houses nextdoor to each other, it seems easier to mow them all at once.
@FloridaTurfPros

Yes, track them one at a time first. That way your good houses won't cover up for the bad and vice versa. Once you know that each yard is profitable on its own, then start tracking total time for all the homes.

First off I just want to say thank you for all the great content I love watching your channel and it has definitely led me in the right direction along my 3 three journey , so that being said I have a question regarding mowing. I jumped the gun on buying all new lawn equipment this year as another service to my design landscaping and my struggle now is pricing which I have dialed in pretty much but I'm in Florida and come Nov-May do i keep the same price per month even though its still being mowed but only 2 times a month or charge lets say just the regular $35 per cut now mind you I am taking care of weeds/shrubs/hedges etc all year round? I don't need a long answer just simple and quick because i know you are a busy man or maybe a video on this subject also how should I account for hedges and weeds in my price ? I haven’t rolled out my equipment yet but when I do I want to maximize my clients when I push advertising "Florida Grown Landscape"

It's strange that noone talks about costs in the pricing videos. Figure out how much it will cost you to mow that lawn, (gas, insurance,time to drive out, equipment cost and so on, this should be a 1 time calculation with a set cost per square foot) and then figure out how long it will take you and what your desired hourly rate is and put that on top. How else do you know if you are profitable if you don't consider all your expenses first?

If weeding a flower bed takes 30 minutes I charge $35. If it takes an hour I charge $65. Not many want to pay that price but that's okay with me. If it were easy they'd do it themselves. Now, in the beginning, I didn't know how long it would take to do this or that task so I'd guess and hope to get close. If I quoted too low I just figured that as the cost of learning what to charge Sort of landscaping school if you know what I mean. After a few attempts, I figured out what worked for me. That's the same way I learned what to charge for hedge trimming, I'd give them a price and hope I was close but if not it paid me to learn. I hope that helps. If the customer is thrifty they'll look to get someone cheaper to do the job, if they trust your work they'll agree to your price. I've even had customers come back to me after hiring someone cheaper and ask me to do it right. So while I won't tell a customer no, I will give them my price and leave it up to them. I don't really want to weed flower beds anyway.
@FloridaTurfPros
@FloridaTurfPros 4 жыл бұрын
First let me say I absolutely hate weeding beds by hand. Therefore, we don't do it, and I don't ask my guys to do it. I sell clients on an upcharge of spraying the beds with weed killer and applying a pre-emergent. If they want us to hand pull weeds they are not a client we want. May seem counter-intuitive, but my thought is this job is hard enough without getting on your hands and knees and pulling weeds in the Florida humidity. No thanks.

I minimum is $50. But I got this $30 biweekly during the slow winter season, lol... I gotta get rid of him soon. Btw I really appreciate the tips. Edit : we had a falling out cause he asked me to trim a shrub and I charged an additional $10. Then said he will do it himself and don't come next time he will find a new company. Ha! 🤣🤣 lesson learned. Never working for a cheap asshole again. Rich asshole, of couuuuurse, Come my way.

Never had that problem. People always pay. I usually say this on bigger properties/acreage. I give them a ball park price first!

@@TheTrailblazer1974 He has videos, usually is between 12-15 mins a yard for 2 guys. Of course he could fake it but I doubt it, those numbers are doable.
