@@perksofbeingaloser they tried to do the same thing here in North America! I’ll always say it, the British/English were the smartest and most conniving empire. Without mentioning the welsh/Irish/Scotts their neighbors…they did a number on India and isreal. There’s a Native American saying that goes ,”when you see two fish fighting in a river, an Englishman must have passed by.” Those “divide and conquer” politics still works till this day.

Also Laurence is Scottish which is important bc England historically has attacked scotland and Gaelic cultures. It’s offensive to count Scotsmen as the same as Englishmen.

Dude you know Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Breton were colonized by a bunch of Anglo-Saxons... right? Look up the Irish Potato Famine, the laws the English used to destroy the languages and cultures of the Manx, Gaelic, and Picts among others, and more recently The Magdalene Laundries. They have the same mass graves the reservation schools in Canada and the US had. They tried out most of their nastiest tricks there before exporting their patriarchal horror show across the world. So maybe stfu.

I think people genuinely forget how young Lawrence actually is. She won UK2 at only 23, she’s only 26 now and yet she speaks with such wisdom and experience not only about drag but about,,, well, everything. Her and Kerri (who ironically is also the same age) share a similar type of aura tbh. Having that level of maturity and life experience and all.

Same thing with Simone and Chelazon Leroux. They're just these astonishingly perceptive, thoughtful people who seem to have arrived at a deeper understanding of the world than some people ever reach, *and* decided to do something with it, all at an age when most people are still sorting out the difference between their butt and a hole in the ground. I'm ten years older than Lawrence and frankly I still have some proctology/gardening mixups.

Lawrence is right tho! I mean drag race has morphed this idea that only the skinny girls are fashionable and that the big girls are camp, you could literally give Bimini the same pink Crystal look Lawrence had and everyone would call it fashion forward, Lawrence wore it and it was called camp…I view Lawrence as a fashion girl! Same as Eureka and Victoria, they wear camp but also wear very fashion forward and couture looks! But because of their size, it’s only ever camp and never Vogue

@@Sam-op6us I did not mean to infer that being fat was a disability, just that fat AND disabled bodies are treated the same way by society. Society has a standard that is traditionally attractive, thin, (often) white, and able-bodied. When you are none of these things, and visibly so, assumptions are made about who you are automatically. There is also an entire discussion to be had about invisible disabilities that the pandemic has really brought forward, too, but that's not the discussion here! I edited my comment for clarity though.

As some one who has weighed 90kgs at one stage of life and 55kgs at another stage, the way I was treated was so vastly different. The abuse from strangers for simply being fat was constant. When I was skinny I was told how good I looked despite the fact that I felt so weak and unhappy at that weight no one cared because I was much better to look at. This comment might probably be a whole lot of rambling but I just spent one of the best hours of my life and it's not shocking when it comes to "Give it to me straight" or anything related to Lawrence Chaney. She is my most favorite drag queen in the whole Drag Race franchise and from day one she's always inspired me to be aspire to someone better in life, almost as if I can believe in myself thanks to her unique and very charming personality, to which I can relate to a lot. It was a delight to be able to listen to all of these stories and continue to find a lot of similarities between her and me, so thank you for that Maddy! Also thank you for the space you've given her as it's evident she loves to talk and she was given the podium to talk and advocate for many excellent causes like standing up for plus size people and respecting someone's identity. As an equal fan of horror, her "skinny" look has left such a mark in me and it's something that I often find myself thinking about, so it's a wonder to realize there are people who find comfort in said genre! The pettiness, how funny she is, along with how serious she can be when speaking about real struggles. I'm speechless (not really)! There's a reason why RuPaul loves her as much as he does and it warmed my heart to the point of melting to hear someone I admire feeling proud and happy of being adored by her own idol. I also have to mention the way she described gender fluidity resonated so much with me and I'm glad someone could finally express properly how I feel myself about my own identity, so there's even more of a reason for me to love Lawrence. From the first day, when the MTQ videos were released I knew I would love her but I was completely swept away when the season started and she began to post videos recreating her runway looks on her channel! Seeing her thriving and being so successful makes me truly happy in the most selfless way possible and I'm really glad all of the hatred she got back then when she argued with Ellie or won over Bimini never stopped her. She truly is a purple blobby warrior. It is one of my biggest dreams to meet her one day and attempt to say many of these things to her face, but in the meantime I truly have to thank Maddy for gifting all of us with one of her best and most intimate interviews. Yet again, I find myself falling hard into this purple swamp of love 💕💕💕💕

You know, one of the reasons I avoid watching horror movies because I’m afraid something like what’s on screen could happen to me. I never really thought of the opposite like what Lawrence said. That’s a very glass half full mindset that I wish I also have. You’re inspiring, Lawrence. 💜
