MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell shares his own crisis of faith in the Supreme Court that he revered before the Roberts Court corrupted legal scholarship to the point where he believes the Republican justices are “just making it up” and, as Justice Elena Kagan expressed in her dissent, are violating the Constitution.

My friend, based on my experiences in dealing with Kentuckians, specifically, my old man's side of the family, who had little or no education, coupled with big, heaping doses of fundamentalist Christianity, I now believe that the only way that Mitch McConnell - or, as I call him, "Senator Inbred Jed" - will ever leave office, short of an uprising of an armed proletariat, will be when the collective IQ of the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky rises above 60, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Not just McConnell. True, he used rules he made up to block Obama's nomination, but the true string pullers are Leonard Leo and the Federalist Society, backed by the BILLIONS of dark money anonymous donations allowed by the Roberts court ruling in Citizens United. All the judges appointed by Trump, including 3 SC Justices, were handpicked and presented to Trump by the Federalist Society.

Let us not forget that Neil Gorsuch's Mom is Anne Gorsuch. She was a Colorado state representative, and was part of a caucus known as the "House Crazies", because they wanted to fundamentally change government (into a far right-wing authoritarian regime). She was later the EPA administrator under Reagan, in the early 1980's, and she personally slashed that agency's budget by 22%. She also fired career employees (on her own whimsy) and hired industry puppets to cover those positions. And her legacy? Well, she became the FIRST cabinet member to ever be held in CONTEMPT of CONGRESS for illegal actions that benefited the owners of a $1.6 BILLION dollar Superfund site. Neil has an axe to grind ... and he's grinding it down to the handle ... taking it out on the citizens of the united States of America. Neil Gorsuch is not qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice. He was hand-picked by Mitch McConnell and the Federalist Society (who really aren't very 'federalist', at all) to lay waste to the U.S. justice system. He's the quintessential bull in the china shop. Or chimp with a loaded gun ... or grenade.

On my first day in Constitutional Law as a second year law student, my professor, a judge, asked the class, “What is the Constitution?” There were so many excellent answers, but each was met with a “No.” After so many good answers, the class sat baffled. Our professor finally said, “The constitution is whatever 5 out of the 9 justices say it is.” Um what? During that year, he also kept drilling us to pay attention to who made up the court at the time a decision was made. That would usually predict the outcome. And here we are with a 6-3 Court that was Frankensteined together by the Federalist Society just doing their thing.

Justice Kagen actually serves. She has the grave misfortune to serve the law while 6 of her fellow Justices thumb their noses at the rule of law. Her 6 benchmates are mainly political operatives with cushy lifetime appointments. They serve only the rich men in the Federalist Society who procured those cushy appointments for them. Brown-Jackson and Sotomayor are similarly afflicted with REAL JOBS as serving Justices while their fellows piddle away with the "culture wars" their masters dictate to them. Crisis of faith? I can only imagine.

Excellent monologue. Every student and voting citizen in America should be so lucky as to hear such truth. SCOTUS has held a magical place in my heart since college back in early 2000's. I'll never forget the prof redefining liberal and conservative as they were in regard to legal opinions, and in studying them it became obvious the intellectual prowess of that debate. The problem with most voters... and another accomplishment of the Republican Party.... is education; to keep the public illiterate and uninformed. 20 years ago the average American read at a 9th grade level and today the average American reads the 5th grade level. A 5th grader is not going to be able to dissect a Supreme Court decision... and therein... is why I drink.

In all fairness it is not up to the court to independently check the facts presented to it. This should’ve been done by the lawyers opposing this decision. It is a gross failure on their part that they didn’t bother to check the facts being put forth by the opposition. I would think that is a basic responsibility of any lawyer. As for those that presented the bogus facts there should be consequences; although let’s face it, there rarely are.
