People forget LT could play the run, and this play showed the kind of hustle that guy had. He wasn't a player like Derrick Thomas, who could only rush the QB, and couldn't do anything else (cover, play the run, etc.). LT was a complete player.
@byrongammonbyrongammon99375 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Derrick Thomas was benched for the 2nd half of the 1993 AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills so the Chiefs could field a defense better suited to stop the Bills running game.

Nothing negative to say about LT, but T couldn't have caught Sims when Sims knees were undamaged and he was in his prime. Lt was very fast, but he was not top shelf running back fast.

@@bluesky-ud9wg you just mentioned "amazing talent, incredible speed, incredible strength and a love for the game" . Other players can't possess those? Now if you are talking about the style that LT played which would be a penalty today, sure. But players don't have to do that to dominate. You are going to say that Ray Lewis wasn't the type on player LT was? See I don't get into this "There will never be another....." crap. I don't know your age but when I was growing up it was "No one will ever break Jim Brown's record" then it was "No one will ever break Babe Ruth's record" then it was "No one will ever break Hank Aaron's record" then it was "No one will ever break Ty Cobb's record", then it was "No one will ever break Lou Gehrig's record". Although I'm a life long Redskin fan, and was even named after a Redskin. . .to me Lawrence Taylor was the greatest player I've seen. And yes, that includes Jerry Rice. What L.T. had to do game in, game out was harder in my opinion than what a receiver has to do. And of course offensive players get more accolades etc, due to the fact they score points, where defensive players normally don't. Either way, playing linebacker is tougher than wide out, and L.T. dominated offenses. In other words, he was the greatest in my opinion.

Billy had a defender in front of him, sideline to his right, two more defenders coming at him from front left. LT was coming from behind on the left. Billy cut an angle to the left in the direction of LT. It was run out of bounds or stay in bounds to try running through these guys for more yardage and a possible TD. Four on one. Someone was bringing him down. It’s not like LT ran him down on a wide open field. The field was short and congested with defensive players. I hate when the commentators give such a skewed commentary trying to make a routine play seem extraordinary. Plus, it was a 35 yard run. 40 yard line to the 5. Geez!!

The word great is overrated when it pertains to the usual suspects. In football no can comes close to LT. Brady, Roger’s, Rice, Sanders are popularly puppets driven by unaccomplished sportscasters named Sharpe, Smith, Wright, Cowherd and so on. If Brady played in Taylor’s era he wouldn’t have lasted 7 games in a season. All these glamorous overhyped overpaid football players with their little twitter accounts couldn’t hang with the likes of “real” football players such as… Taylor, Butkus, Tatum, Lambert.
