I live in vill cabamba and I had a temporary visa and I was put in touch with an English speaking cab driver named Franklin. He charged me $10.00 per hour and took me to Augogas for my permanent visa ,he knew everything that I had to do and where to go . I had NO problems. The total cost for Franklin was $ 30.00 ( But I had all my paper work in order )

I simply love your videos! They are always so fun and informative. I’m 59 and would love for my next life chapter to be as an expat in Portugal or Ecuador. You are the ones that got me excited about life in Ecuador! The U.S is not exactly that thrilling anymore. Unfortunately, my wife is not onboard with the adventure. She does not want to be too far apart from her family or our grown children. I love the joy you share with us and each other in discovering a whole new world together. I still hope for the best. Until then, I live vicariously through you two. Take care and stay well!

Oh I completely understand you. My husband feels the same way as you wife. But i told him the kids will have a place to vacation in summer with us, they will love going to a different country go to the beach and mountain with us, eating different food and we can come for Christmas and stay with them we can travel anywhere anytime we want, and now he’s taking that in consideration.

In regard the guns, you must first apply for a special permit called "salvo conducto" it's a process that takes time, do not even think on bringing them to equador, since that's considered a serious crime, punishible even with 6 years of imprisonment I think, You could carry a conceiled knife in your sheen, just in case, which is illegal as well but I've done that before, the cops frisk the thugs not "greengos" but in case they talk to you, you can explain it to them, tell them you don't feel so safe, the crime rate is high in chicago, tell them, they will understand, the law is breakable and negotioable only if it's for life saving porpuses, I break the law all the time, I carry a knife when I go to get some beer on foot, walking next to the shore is not what a man should do, nevertheless I do it sometimes, but I am ready, in addition it's good to be trained mentally and physically, knowing your surroundings, using the poles and the tress as shields, even a stop sign could be useful to block any attack from a thug, the trash can could work as a hurdle between you and the agresor, rocks could work as well, why not, a piece of brench, many things could be used in your defense, the high niveux thieves who are armed usually robb banks or agencies, that happens mostly in guayaquil or Quito, Cuenca is not that violent.

How about taxes- if you have a CD within Ecuador, what is your tax liabilities to Ecuador. You would need to pay taxes in the USA for any interest you received. International Living had an article from an expat that was living off his interest on several CDs he had in Ecuador- some up to 9 3/4 % interest per year and they paid him monthly but he did not say what his tax liability was to Ecuador.

HI guys, love your channel and what you do but in this particular vlog I have a hard time with your viewers' questions sounding so typically AMERICAN and AMERICAN MINDED !!! (Me, myself and I, My gun, YOUR responsability, I'll will sew anyone for anything !) Come on ! What is that attitude ? If you wish to establish yourself somewhere else, please adapt to this particular place. As the saying goes: When in Rome, do as the Romans ! You just have to ASSUME your decisions and be responsible for yourself.
@AmeliaAndJP
@AmeliaAndJP 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed our other vlogs, but these were all valid questions and it's important to understand that there are differences between the laws here and in the states. This is not a sue happy country so Americans need to understand that most things are handled outside the courts. They also need to understand that most drivers don't have insurance so if you get into an accident, you will likely have to cover the costs even if it's not your fault. The gun question was more about the strict gun laws here to illustrate how other countries handle them. Gun violence is very low here because they have sensible gun laws with strict requirements for having them. Have you lived abroad before?

The word, GRINGO to describe Caucasians is derogatory, or what some people would call "racist.". I know because I grew-up in a Mexican area of California. That word is always demeaning, but many Caucasians do not know. Now, if a Caucasian person called a Mexican a "beaner' they would be called a racist. The term "beaner" was a derogatory word t refer to Mexicans. It doesn't matter that his video is in Ecuador since the same principle applies. Please educate your realtors!! I would not hire them based on that word alone.
@AmeliaAndJP

It’s not a derogatory word in Ecuador. It’s a term of endearment here. I suggest visiting Ecuador before telling Ecuadorians what the words they use mean, Karen 😉
@Karen-dk1ec
@Karen-dk1ec 4 жыл бұрын
@@AmeliaAndJP Thank-you for your reply. It's interesting that "Gringo" is not a derogatory term in Ecuador. How is it a term of endearment? Please understand in Calif. and NY the term, Gringo is derogatory. I am not doubting what you are saying since you live in Ecuador. These are not the times to tell someone to travel to a particular country. I certainly do not tell natives of a country what to say. I would ask what the word means to them. Open-ended questions are better.
@AmeliaAndJP
@AmeliaAndJP 4 жыл бұрын
The Spanish word for foreigner is “extranjero” which also means stranger. Ecuadorians are very warm and welcoming. They sort of have the mindset that no one is a stranger so I can see why they wouldn’t like to use that word. I’m not sure why they chose to use gringo instead of a different word, but everyone we asked about it said it’s used in place of foreigner and is not derogatory. No one we asked knew it was a derogatory term in other places. In Mexico, the ok hand gesture means the same thing as the middle finger in the US. Does that mean the ok sign should be considered derogatory everywhere? Or maybe we should just avoid using it in Mexico. The world is a complicated place and different cultures have different meanings for the same things.
@Karen-dk1ec
@Karen-dk1ec 3 жыл бұрын
@enrique perez Regardless of the exact translation, the word "Gringo" is ALWAYS used in a derogatory manner to refer to Caucasian Americans. I am probably older than you. I have lived in Calif my whole life, and I knw what I am talking about. A large sector of Mexicans in Calif do not consider themselves as Mexican-Americans, but Mexicans living in the USA. This is one reason that a large sector of Mexicans do not learn English or a few words. They resent that Calif is no longer part of Mexico. I am NOT saying all Mexicans. Does the La Raza movement ring a bell? I live somewhere else with a different Latin group. It is shocking how young people are not interested in learning English to better themselves. Other ethnic groups learned English when they immigrated t this country, which is historical fact and custom. Maybe the word Gringo is not used in a derogatory manner everywhere, but it is in the West & Southwest of the US. I am sure Mexicans would not like to be called "Beaners" which was a derogatory term used in the 1970s. I am sure I will receive hateful responses rather than people responding with objectivity.
@Karen-dk1ec
@Karen-dk1ec 3 жыл бұрын
@enrique perez What do you think derogatory means? it implies the same meaning as pejorative. Are you going to debate about minor semantics? This issue goes beyond Calif. I said I don't live in Calif anymore. Sorry if the truth hurts, but the word Gringo is offensive.
