THIS IS THE DREAM TEAM! I could never ask for more than John on Life and the psychology of it all and Jefferson on how to communicate. THIS is amazing! Would love to see them work together more! ❤

Love this. What you don't say sometimes is more powerful than what you do say.

What a special treat to have a lawyer's input in relationships. That sounded wrong, but was meant genuinely. Thank you!

Thank you for hitting on the “Let’s argue in the bedroom” move. My folks were awesome parents. Never argued in front of us and were truly in love. They held hands through all their married life. IMO we’re always respectful of one another. I know there HAD to be times of disconnect/troubles - we just NEVER witnessed it. As you can imagine when I experienced my first big argument in my marriage I was devastated. It was a new territory that I was ill equipped to handle. So much turmoil in the beginning but finally got through it.

One thing not raised, I let let my husband eat before we talk. I won't get anywhere if he's hungry!

Dinner time should not be that rigid that a difference of 15 minutes matters one way or another. Just like a plane scheduled to take off at a particular time--never happens.

I thought the issue wasn't dinner time or exact punctuality. It's saying you would be there at a certain time and not doing it. Repeatedly. Not sticking to your word is the problem.

It was 45 minutes, not 15 and he didn't communicate with her.

@@musicalatvExactly. And considering dinner lasts about an hour, that means you've missed out on dinnertime with your family completely. Dinnertime is often the one time you have all day in which the entire family gets to sit down and be together as a family. Plus, it was mentioned that that was happening repeatedly. Dad not being there repeatedly for the one chance he has to be with his family that day wears not only on his wife, but on his relationship with his kids. Then, that wears on the wife even more, because she sees how it's affecting her children, and that hurts her even more. Missing dinner repeatedly is huge.

With me, when dinner is ready, it's fresh made.. not in a crock pot.. if he's late the quality really deteriorates and the kids are hungry. We like to eat all together and discuss the day, so it really bothers me if he's not on time. He's missing on quality time. Often, he's at his buddy's for a quick beer after work, so I have less than zero patience

Sometimes you make dinner. When it's hot, it's hot.

.... am I missing something in this scenario? He was 5 minutes late, and he gets no wiggle room to explain why? What if the scenario was he was on time but dinner was late by 5 minutes... this seems really petty. Now if hes 5 hours late smelling like booze and strippers, divorce him honey.

First of all, this is an example. He was 45 minutes late. And they had had a retreat where they agreed that this was something important. The wife feels invalidated because he didn't keep his side of the bargain.
