Considering the fact Galactic Attack got released here despite Stolar's asinine policies, you'd really have thought we'd have gotten this full 3D sequel. Of course, here's me trying to siphon logic out of Bernie Stolar's empty head, so egg on my face...

Galatic Attack was released in the kalinske era iirc. Either way, this version of the game was not a good showpiece for the saturn, mediaquest lazily adapted PSX polygons to saturn hardware instead of making use of the vdp2 and as a result the game drops frames constantly

this looks like it could have had some potential in the US (and the UK)

It was released in these regions, but not on the Saturn, which received a release in Japan. The Japanese Saturn game is playable on a North American Saturn when using a Pro Action Replay cartridge (I recommend the 4M Plus version).

Why did gameplay skip 2:56-2:57, 4:47-4:48, 6:18-619, 7:19-7:21? The video quality is also lackluster, probably due to the capture setup used.

This is a very old video uploaded in 2010. It is not going to be perfect. The fact that the resolution is so low should explain this was encoded years ago.

@@RetroCore: I did try to be fair by acknowledging that the capture equipment used may not be top of the line (dated), but this doesn't explain the cuts in the recording. I normally watch KZfaq in 480p, Theater display mode on my 15.5 inch notebook computer, built in 2008 (and it still works... for the most part). Most videos are crystal clear despite not displaying in HD. Videos with 360p or lower resolution are noticeably lower quality. If your video is 360p or less, KZfaq hasn't removed the higher resolution options, which is strange because it normally does remove the higher display modes from the gear button.

+josenildo ferreira de souza Not in the case of this game, PS1 gets the slight edge due to transparencies. The arcade version though, destroys both of them.

Bloodreign1 I think the main issue is that instead of doing a real wide-screen port they just zoomed in and cropped the image.

Good game but one of the problems of the Saturn was Sega pandering towards the arcade market instead of creating something driven with more in depth gameplay.

arcade gaming can have more depth than some RPGs or open world games "depth" is not just vast areas to wander in and looting some items, it can also, in an arguably purer form, consist of level design, enemy AI, enemy patterns, weapon use, scoring mechanics... and this kind of depth can also be harder to create than the depth seen in RPGs and such some of the games with the most depth are arcade games such as battle garegga, radiant silvergun or street fighter third strike but even a game such as layer section II right here already provides some good depth with its challenging gameplay and nice scoring mechanics

@@ryzmaker11 I'm just pointing out that was kind of ultimately why the Saturn failed outside of Japan. People were taken in by more story driven narratives and less arcade style gameplay.

@@pferreira1983 but the saturn also had story-driven games, quite a lot actually and many of which were available in western regions: myst, tomb raider, resident evil, torico, D and its sequel enemy zero, shining the holy ark, dark savior, deep fear, panzer dragoon saga... the choice was there, the problem is that sega didn't advertise the saturn efficiently so people barely knew what it offered aside from tomb raider. it's crazy how marketing plays such a huge part in a console success and other big reasons behind the saturn failure are: -the surprise launch in US (bad idea...) -the confusing 32X/saturn duality (VERY bad idea, it should have been either one or the other but not both) -and probably the worst move: the lack of sega's popular *console* IPs that made the mega drive so successful prior to it. no sonic, no streets of rage, no phantasy star... really sega?? it's the polar opposite of nintendo who knew how to make a console successful: the right games at the right moments

@@ryzmaker11 I agree with a lot of those points. The games with more depth weren't advertised as much. People wanted games that lasted longer but any attempts to do this on the Saturn were not marketed enough. I completely disagree with KZfaqrs like Sega Lord X that more arcade ports would have helped the Saturn. Arcade ports were ultimately what Saturn became known for.

@@pferreira1983 again it's not the games with "more depth" but the games that are more story-driven and if sega lord X said that, then I also disagree with him. saturn had enough arcade ports and needed more home exclusives. I've already mentioned sonic, streets of rage and phantasy star but what would have also been great to get are saturn entries in the toejam & early, ecco the dolphin and eternal champions series which were all big successes on mega drive ... which leads me to mention another big reason behind the saturn failure: the internal disputes between sega of japan and sega of america, which is something that eternal champions highlights given that an instalment was planned for the saturn but SoJ were not OK with that as they wanted to focus solely on virtua fighter but pretty sure that there was room for both and people would have been happy to get a new game in this then popular series, just like how the N64 got an instalment in the killer instinct series ultimately the saturn failure was anything but surprising. SO many things done wrong, it's just as sad as it is baffling
