One of the coolest things I find with AC Bloodlines is that it shows how little is actually needed on a technical level to make a compelling Assassin's Creed game and how feasible an indie spiritual successor to the old good assassin's creed's could be.

If they ever remastered/remade AC1 it would be to see the concepts/story beats of these two games be expanded and made into DLC

AC Bloodlines was my first AC game I have played. That game got me interested in the whole franchise.

~30:50 My assumption has always been that Desmond was supposed to have gone through these memories between the end of AC1 and when Lucy came back to break him out in the opening of AC2. I'm not sure if there's a canon amount of time that passed between the games, but I assume it was at the very least a few hours, if not a few days, and Bloodlines only takes about 6 hours to complete, so if we assume it would take the same length of time in-universe it tracks. And Desmond definitely has to have relived the Bloodlines memories at some point, because he recognizes Maria by name in AC2, when her name is never stated in AC1 as far as I remember

The way you broke down Chaos and how the observation of the same is the foundation of the Creed spoke to me! Very nicely put and it is exactly what it is, as Ezio has said; the order was born out of observing the nature of the world (paraphrasing). There is beauty in Chaos, there is peace of mind in it, but its all about perspective at the end of the day. Depending on how much you as a human focus on negative aspects of life in general will determine your interpretation of reality, so thats how you can get a smart man like Haytham take the opposite side with Ezio on the other one. Both figures with traumatic pasts and lives fueled by revenge and seeking meaning, and both ending up at completely different points. Great video James! In an avid reader but I never actually read the AC Novels, in fear of them being a marketing cash grab... But I might give Secret Crusade and Forsaken a shot!

I always considered Bloodlines was Desmond accessing the memories after AC1. He had free reign to re-enter the Animus as he wished after the game ended, and while AC2 starts as if Lucy busts in immediately after AC1 ends, for all we know it's been several hours or maybe even another day.

If AC1 ever gets a remake I think these side games should be in it, not part of the main story but as a separate tab that play afterwards, maybe get the RE2 treatment y'know

My theory is that the secret Templar order were founded during the earlier crusader campaigns but went public as the Holy order of the Knights Templar as their front company to gain a military force in the East to further their goals, indoctrinating others into their true inner circle ( the antagonist to the assassins)

I feel like Darby is the only person who goes in depth into the philosophical side of the conflict between the assassin and the templar. It's evident in every game that he writes. The way the characters talk about their believes and how they explain what their creed means to them are unmistakably him. Other games are just wishy washy about all of it.

The blue orbs in Altair's Chronicles can be explained like this: they are the missing or unrendered synchronizations by the Animus. İt's apparent that we're still in the Animus as indicated by the abstergo logo on the top left corner. Since the graphics are ass, we can understand that this is an early, faulty build of the Animus. And due to this Animus being early and faulty, it doesn't load up all the synchronizations perfectly like the one in Assassin's Creed 1 does. So these orbs are the missing synchronization points which are spread all around the program, Altair gains them and unlocks abilities, which further enhances the synchronization to be more accurate. But hey that's just the way İ personally see it.

I would argue against that everything is chaos. For example a waterfall may seem like chaos with a force of water flowing down, splashing around. However all that follows a mathematical order. What would be chaos is if i threw a flower to a mountain and the mountain crumbling.

Altairs Chronicles was the first AC game I ever played and I'm very happy I gave the series an honest second chance with the mainline games years later

I'd like to point out that Ahda's death is part of his character arc in AC1 and how he starts the way he does, but that means the informant in Acre that asks about Ahda either doesn't know she died, or is just openly mocking Altair and that he wasn't fast enough to save her, which is kind of hilarious.

Of all the AC mcs that deserved more than one game, I think Altair is the most egregious. He could’ve done a mainline trilogy, easy.

I played bloodlines for the first time last yesr with a psp with a broken screen and even then I found it worth enduring through the pain of playing on a system with a flickering screen.

Snagged a pack of 8 (The AC2 through to Syndicate Novels) for like $50 New (would have been anywhere between $20-$40 to get just the Ezio Trilogy ones Used otherwise) and so I'll also have The Secret Crusade... Actually so keen to go through the Ezio Trilogy again, but READING it 🤣

This vid brings me nostalgia, I remember young me played Altair's Chronicles on iPhone 4 and iPad 2 back in 2010s, loved the absurd yet flourish triple jump he made and some of the cheesy voice lines like "Not you you fool, ladies you have to excuse me" -some merchant in the beginning of the game and "Damn you Basilik, come now let's get this over with!" -Altair fighting the boss near the end.

Was waiting for this! Weirdly enough, Bloodlines was the second AC game I ever played lol (first being AC 3). It was years ago when I knew nothing about the series. I kept replaying it like crazy on my PSP as I didn't have many games back then, certainly not other AC games. Good times

Great review! I have a serious,if very hard to play, game. It was called Backstab. It was an iPhone, and Xperia apparently, game. I am convinced it started as a prequel for Assassins Creed 4 and they couldn't get the rights but released the game anyway. It's no longer available to buy but I think there are some let's plays online and emulators might work.

Man finally someone talks about bloodlines. It felt like i was the only one who played this game since no one seems to mention it on any AC video. It was my 1st AC game and i really enjoyed it even though some tailing and stealth missions were a pain to get through because of the janky controls. I played it so many times that I actually started doing combat with the hidden blade which only allows u to do counter kills meaning u have to be extremely focused and precise. It was really fun.

I was at around 21:15 where you started talking about the codex and I happen to have a AC Brotherhood collector's edition Codex book and grabbed it to check if it was in there too. AND IT WAS!! Okay to help make this fit cannon, my headcanon theory is that Chronicles is the first game Abstergo made. They changed names and gameplay in Altair's life to make it more fun. There's some truth to its story but not all of it

Bloodlines was my first AC game on original hardware and I never forgot how mindblowing it is that you can climb and parkour on practically anything. I played it again recently (after becoming a fan of the series, though not anymore) and it still holds up well enough.

Fun fact, Bloodlines was my first entry into Assassins Creed. Not even joking about that. And then funny enough, Revelations. Strange order, I know. Quick story, my older cousin was a big fan who introduced me to the games, we play Revelations, get to Altair's third flashback mission and he says, "Who the hell is this chick?". And then I said, "Is that Maria? DUDE, THAT'S ALTAIR'S WIFE!!" And he's like, "WHAT!?!?" It was a very rare moment where I knew a piece of AC lore he didn't. A secret card in the deck only a nerd could appreciate.

i replayed these recently too, and altairs chronicles for the first time. I struggled towards the end because apparently you're meant to buy upgrades? Turns out those blue orbs just never appeared for me and i never was able to do so 🙃still beat it though, thought it was fun enough

"Its role is to unite the factions of whoever holds it, the Crusaders or the Saracens" I think this sentence means, there are two sides, but each side is also internally divided into factions. So in order for one of the sides of conflict to achieve victory, they must unite and be stronger than the opposing side, that's what the artifact's for. Not to unite Saracens with Crusaders

Little tidbit about the PSP Assassin's Creed game: When I bought it, I remember reading the back of the box over and over on the way home, and it advertises itself as an "open world" experience. I was super excited--open-world on the PSP? Yes please. When I loaded it, not only did I learn it wasn't true open-world, instead of acting more like open-zone and the zones were each incredibly small, but it took ages to load another zone. Not only that, but one of the back-of-the box pictures shows a zone without the loading fog, which means that, at some point, it really was open-world, and I am still salty about that.

I sadly could not play Bloodline because in one of the first mission, my game would glitch out. When I tried to kill my target, I would not do the assassination animation and I was not able to kill him no matter what i did.

I had Gamelofts iphone port of assassins creed, I was 11 starting 6th grade and it was the first Assassins Creed game I ever played, the last time I was able to play it was in on the app store was in 2015. Someday I’ll get the DS port cause I wanna relive my middleschoolhood, I miss this game

Bloodlines I feel happened after Warren and Lucy left and Desmons poked around a bit on the Animus. The mission structure feels more AC2. No real planning, just throwing yourself into it. Just wish there was some investigation so we'd have some information to plan an assassination. Played it recently just after AC1 and I love it honestly. For a PSP game, I was seriously impressed.

My Nokia N8 running symbian OS actually got a port of Altair's chronicles and it was only years later I really found out it was a DS game

I believe at least one of these was ported to the Nintendo DS because I vaguely remember some of those missions

Fun fact: AC Bloodlines is the only noticable AC game where the characters actually have scabbards for their weapons. From AC1 to Ezio Trilogy, Kenway Saga, Initiative Duology, the RPG trilogy and even the new Mirage, the swords magically floats on the side of their belts.
