In this tutorial I show you how to make a paracord dog leash using an interesting technique. Dubbed the "lazy man braid" by Bruce Grant this interesting braid is fast, easy and looks great. Quite the combo!
The entire project is tied using 2 strands at a time!
Enjoy the video!

Brother, your repetitive instructions, make this a perfect tutorial, so many people just show you once or twice, covering the rope with their fingers. Please continue your repetitive direction and camera work. You have taught me perfectly, keep up the great work my friend!! Greetings from the Northeast

Great tutorial. I just made a 12' long leash doing this. I used 45' long lengths of paracord in case anyone is curious. Also I skipped the decorative knots to get the max length I just spliced the ends back through the leash for about 6 turns and melted the ends.

This is my favorite braid for a dog leash. It's fast and makes a leash with a circular cross-section that's large enough to grip easily. I love the turk's head finishing knot too. That makes it easy to feel when the end of the leash is near when it's slipping through your hand. I walk shelter dogs as a volunteer and I've made four leashes of various lengths based on the instructions in this excellent video. I use a Petzl Ange S carabiner for attaching the leash to a collar or for clipping to the leash body to make a slip-collar. Thanks Mark! Great job!

The instructions in this video are fantastic! I’ve made this leash many times, however I don’t double the strands up. This makes a lighter, less bulky leash and is plenty strong. I make it longer, then add overhand knots to mark distances for short, medium and long distance handling.

This is a great tutorial! I had difficulty keeping track the footrope knot, and kept running the last pair incorrectly. To fix this I ended up wrapping each pair of cords with tape about 6" from the square knot, then taping the ends of each pair together and labeling them. I keep the square knot tight and only thread the tips of each pair through until I have all four pairs through.

Supernice tutorial, right amount of info mathcing speed easyto follow. Only thing id say with the splicing for the handle, when u say add 1 maybe 2 more depending the dog. Well Paracord is such and extremly tough cord that can withstand allot of weight, so even a leash like thiswith 4 strands braided up into 1 big strand is enough for most sized dogs ( unless maybe u have some of those monstor size/weight dogs ) Altough that might even work. Its in anyways much tougher than leather and they use that for big and heavy dogs too so ...

When I was a child, we called this lanyard weave, the 'Diamond'. I used 2 colors as you suggested, but I put opposite colors side-by-side, for an interesting herring-bone effect. I also get a neater start by first putting the lower right, behind to the left, and the lower left, in front to the right. Then on as you said. This start is especially important if you make something that does not have a ring or knot at the start to hide the irregularity. re 9:40 I found that my ends were not still even, so I adjusted them all again, also further tightening the ring loops too. re 14:00 It helps to frequently, untangle the ends, so the tangle does not interfere with your weaving. re 30:55 I like your decorative end better than burying the ends of the splice inside the weave approaching the handle, but I pulled them only part-way along under the outer layer, and then out, perpendicular to the leash, cutting & melting them, and tucking the melted tips back, invisibly inside the turks-head. PS: I don't know about 'lazy', but certainly contemplative. Very nice reminder of a forgotten craft. Thank you.

Nice! Does this leash offer any amount of elasticity or does it get progressively tighter and more rigid each time the dog darts forward or pulls hard on it? Is the elasticity of the leash down to the type of cord used? or down to the weaving pattern as well?

Love this tutorial. My only word of caution is with cord length. Always size larger than you think you will need. With the last 1ft of cord used for the decorative knots I sized the other 16ft up by 25% shooting for a 5ft leash using 21ft lengths of cord. When I got down to the last foot of unwoven cord, I found I only had 3.5ft of length *before* looping back for the handle. Due to the short length, this one is probably not going to be very functional.
