I have been saving my change since I was a kid, when I was married n my kids were little we used the change to fund our vacations (holiday's) we would have anywhere from $1,000-1,200 saved up for it. Now that it's just me, saving my change for the year pays for Christmas gifts so I don't need a sinking fund for it.

I almost always cook a double batch of everything. It's usually enough for dinner one night, both of us for lunch the next day and 1 extra dinner portion for leftovers and then I freeze the other half to do the same thing another time, without having to cook. We have two left over nights per week. I only cook 2-3 meals and we go out or order in one meal per week, usually using a coupon or a deal. I had surgery a few months ago and we went 3 weeks without me having to cook dinner due to all the frozen meals we had saved up in the freezer.

We have a friend who lives out of town, every time there’s an event on we let her park on our drive. In return (she works for a very expensive ready meal company) every couple of weeks she give us 2 free ready meals. They really are restaurant quality and cost approx £9.50 for a meal for 2. A very lazy way to get free food! X

I know ppl get tired of hearing me say this, but I can when I find a fantastic deal. Example: last night I found whole chickens for .89 A POUND! I bought 4 chickens. They are going to be canned up for the shelf and then the bones and skin will make several quarts of lovely broth to go on the shelf. I just saw boxed broth in the store on sale for $2 a qt. Every little bit counts. And if you don't can, you could always freeze it.

I resisted joining loyalty programs from our 2 major grocery retailers but finally relented and now squeeze out every benefit. Like you Jane, I activate every offer, just in case and I pay attention. I regularly get an offer where if I spend $50/week for 4 weeks I get $50 in points - so a 25% discount! Hello, thank-you!! I only buy what's already on special, or essential, so it's really worthwhile - and fun!! I treat it like a game, walking around with my calculator to make sure I spend as close as possible to the $50 and no more. It all adds up - I've got $750 worth of points for simply scanning my card every time. That's a lot of money to me!! And yes, lazy meals are essential and usually healthier than take out too!! Cheers from Oz!

I save my copper and when i have a money bag full I put in the Air Ambulance charity bucket in the indoor market I go to . Our chemist had started to display tiny jars on their counter. You fill them with 5 ps and they hold £2 . I've filled 2 up to press and am starting my 3 rd . They've collected over £150 for the Lifeboats charity. Good causes and no effort to help them . 👏☺️👏

When my daughter was born in 1995, I transferred everything I could to standing order or direct debit. The banking apps were hardly there, so I used websites. Likewise I looked at how the mortgage was going and I joined various online supermarkets. Streamlining like this definitely helped us as my DH was away so much. It definitely helped me budget. My daughter is 28 now so I have been doing it a long time.

I've been doing all this for years. It's so easy to do and use. I have one bill each month I have to write a check for which is my lot/elect. bill. My comfort is knowing all my bills are paid when I get my SS payment. What is left, that's how much I know I can save and/or spend each month.

I’ve bought a portable coin holder/dispenser from Amazon. I mostly use cash for purchases and this little holder has the individual slots for coins and I can give exact change. Almost every cashier asks me where I got it because they want one too, lol. I’ve cleared up a lot of change just hanging around.

Thank you 😊 I have home delivery from my supermarket to my door. I appreciate this more today as I'm up 2 flights of stairs. And have the bill taken care of with the payment on my phone when ordering. I do like shopping on my phone for groceries. When foods are half price I order more.. Which I wouldn't do in person. Also on the supermarket site I can shop wiser and select items lower in cost per weight. Most important is being frugally wise with spending money Oh how times have changed over the years. I don't scan my credit card though when out because it's been mindless spending for me in the past.. I'd rather enter my 4 digit code every time I need too. I'm on disability and living in government housing. It's wonderful to watch frugal living sites on youtube too. After spending from my pension I ventured into being wise with what money I have coming in through being advised by frugal influencers like yourself. Thank you for your commitment Jane and Mike. . .

I love my grocery store app. I can check the flyer when I’m making my grocery list. I can check the price of an item when I see it at a different store to see if it is a better price than at the grocery store. Lastly, when I can’t find an item in the grocery store I look for it on their app and it tells me the aisle where the item can be found.

I utilize a personal uniform for work. It saves money and brain power. I don't have to decide anything first thing in the morning, it's there waiting for me. A pair jeans and a black t-shirt. Do I have a couple of different styles? Yes. But everything in the closet is an option for the day. I have 2 pair of jeans and 5 black t-shirts. I'm happy. This may not be for everyone. It's the season I am in, and I am ok with that. (Yes, I do have some other items for church and weekends, but not that much!) No one cares about what people wear unless it is way outside of the norms of society.

Some of our grocery stores offer senior day on the first Wednesday of each month, 55+ gets 10% off. Plus some days you can earn 4 times the points needed for discount on gasoline. It adds up quickly. I also batch cook. Once a week I will make some kind of dish that makes 6-8 servings. I put single servings in the freezer. Chili, soups, pasta or rice casseroles, etc. I always have fast meals at hand and lots of variety. I also bake tea breads often. Like banana bread or zucchini, ginger pear, apricot or whatever I have on hand. I slice it and freeze it. So there's always a treat to have with my tea.

Agree with so much you have said. I literally today had a lazy mood day. The idea to " just get take away" popped in my head but then remembered my soup I freeze so toast and soup it was. I also use apps we have a good shop called woolworths here in Australia and love using my everyday rewards card to get point that add up to either $10 off a shop or like I chose you can collect the points all year and in December you can use points as money. So far this year I have $260 in points saved for xmass. We also get the offeres you speak of onto of the points. And yes bank auto pay is so handy

I do everything online. My son, who is a techie, warned me about downloading my banking on my phone as it could easily be hacked. So if I do need to use my phone for away from home banking needs, I log in , do what I need then get out of it. Other than that I do everything else online. The deals are out there, we just have to take advantage of them. I keep a simple notebook of my monthly expenses. This way I not only plan for the usual monthly bills, but also note upcoming expenses that are annual or biannual. a "lazy" way to save is to pick up one or two extras of something when shopping, to keep home goods stocked up. I got a kick out of the little ding sound lol Have a lovely day 🥰🪷🌺🌸🌼💗✝💖🇺🇲

Well, please forgive me! One last comment....One lazy way we make use of things to save money is fast and easy: when we barbeque chicken , we save the bones and freeze those bones to make scrumptious chicken broth for our doggies in the microwave. We use hardly any electricity, we get all the goodness out of those bones, and we have some very, very pleased dogs who get this broth every day!

For me, definitely supermarket loyalty cards. Particularly Tesco's - you get lower prices on some products just for having the card. Plus I use the points I've collected to pay for weekly grocery delivery, which is a big deal for me as i have health issues.

I’d say with Tesco it’s a case of you pay normal prices with the clubcard and inflated prices otherwise but I see your point and I do the same as the 4x rewards are terrible in Ireland now, I got great deals in the past.

I agree..it really irritates me the 'clubcard price'. So unless you want to mine me for data on my shopping habits have to pay an inflated price. Compare the same items for clubcard cost versus a normal cost. Infuriating

Jane I save money by Meal Planning . So when I get up in the Morning or the Day before I look at the Meal Plan and I know what to take out of the Freezer for that day or the next day, also on my meal plan I have every week 1 or 2 days of leftovers so we aren't wasting a bit of Food .. This Saves a lot of Money ... No running to the Store for anything because I'm not sure what to cook for any given night .

I put bills on auto pay If I get a discount for doing so. Otherwise, I pay bills when they first arrive. For decades, my goal has been to plan meals that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less. That when I made whole meals for a family. Now, I live alone and almost never cook like that. Now, I do a lot like you do.... cook enough to have extra, warm up something so I only have to cook pasta rice the next time when I re-heat what's leftover from another meal, etc.
@Carolmaizy

I make spaghetti and meatballs- it takes about 3 to 4 hrs, so I make enough for a meal, a 2nd meal the next day or so, and 2 or 3 freezer meals. I make sure my efforts on day one pay off in the future. I also love cooking a roast in the crockpot. Add mashed potatoes and a vegetable- effortless. Hamsteaks- warmed in a fry pan, with a salad or two steamed veggies. Taco bowls- fry up and season twice the hamburg needed- freeze one portion for another meal. Crumble taco shells into a bowl, add cheese, seasoned hamburg, lettuce, tomato, olives. Stir-fried vegetables over rice (I use a rice cooker) with left over chicken.

Thanks to your tip, Jayne i am able to have a relaxing day, once a week, and not really cook - i cook once and use twice! So, the spicy mince ( hamburger for the Americans?) I used yesterday to make aubergine stacks today will be the basis of a pasta bake and while the oven is on i will make a ' tray bake' of some sort which i can slice up and put in my sons lunch boxes as a desert! Thanks so much for your hints. Another 'lazy' thing i do is that i only mend stuff when there is pile of 3 items - rather than get the sewing kit out every 5 minutes!

Our coupon situation here in the US is crazy. They offer us 480 coupons and we’re not allowed to download all of them but we have to sit there and look through all of them or search for the ones we want they will not let us download all of them. It's funny, but I don't see any of these as lazy, but just sensible! Regrading supermarkets, I'm going over to a different one in the next few days to pick up some lower priced items using my loyalty card. Before my trip I thought I'd check the supermarket's website, easy touch of a button stuff.......which then triggered a series of further money off vouchers arriving through the post. I sometimes find that if I look around online, but don't buy, a discount might arrive, so can be worth holding off a bit. Could be counted as a lazy way to save, as I've not actually asked for the discount, just had a quick look about on a website for the products I'm intending to buy anyway.

On line banking is my go to these days. My husband doesn't like it, so he uses checks I put away dollars ,$1 bills to build up cash savings for special things that are not essentials but fun ( gardening and plants for me), or a mini vacation every spring and autumn.

Sounds like my husband...but he doesn't even use checks LOL. Last year I started saving $5.00 bills, just throwing them into a container, no counting, no looking inside, just tossing them in. From Jan to July I had saved $1200 to use to go meet up with my sister for a family vacation. I was shocked how much I actually had in the container.

I check credit card accounts, saving and checking daily to check for fraud. Due to cc being compromised. Utilites sends me a notice when due and when the payment post. As soon as a purchase on my 2 cc is made a notification pops up. Thanks for your ideas.

I check accounts daily also. Had an incident last year where someone ( very organized -probably a crime syndicate) created a similar but different email address, flooded my email with 5000 spam emails, then hacked into my bank and changed my email to the made up one. Next day while I was busy dealing with the email issue, they withdrew all my savings. I caught it that night before I went to bed. Totally freaked me out. Was able to recover money, but was a validation of checking accounts daily.

What do you use a clothesline to hang clothes to dry

Yes I do, even in the winter on a windy day. We also have a wood stove in the kitchen and we dry the laundry over the stove in the wet cold winter.

I love to use cash. When the internet crashes, what are people going to do?

Do you actually believe that the internet will crash forever and never return? I don't. There's no one internet. There's thousands of suppliers, servers, back up and reserve back up. The internet can go down for a few hours and we're fine. I'm not afraid of the future. I have, by averages, 20 years of life left and I'm not going to worry about things I can't change.

Here in the US ditch those little tags. Sign up online and use your telephone number..

You mean apps? Here you don't get the discounts/coupons/33% reductions without the apps.

You still use the app, but instead of having the little tag on your key ring, you just input your mobile phone number into the payment terminal. Or at some stores, you have bring up a QR code on the app for the cashier to scan.

You build up the cash equivalent amount on the loyalty cards then spend it like cash at the supermarket
