I know he's well known and all that, but for me, totally underrated. His performances in 'Made in Britain' and 'Meantime' at such an early age were mesmerising to me as a young lad growing up in Manchester at the time.

I first saw Tim playing the part of Gregor Samser in a Steven Berkoff producution of Franz Kafka 'Metamorphosis' at the Mermaid theatre in the mid 80s. The 'bedroom' (SPOILER ALERT!) where Gregor turns into the beetle was an igloo made of scaffolding poles about 10ft in diameter which he skulked in, scurried over and dropped from and I have NEVER seen such a physical performance. It was brutal!

He said his family changed their name to Roth , despite not being Jewish. Yet, the funny thing is, if I saw him for the first time, without knowing a single thing about him, I would presume from his appearance, that he is Jewish. He actually looks Jewish.

@PayneToTheMax

I'm just curious, but do you still follow the skinhead 'life?' Or is it something you've now grown out of? There's a non-profit organization in the US called Life After Hate, that was formed in 2011 by former neo-Nazis who now try to help rehabilitate those on the extreme right through compassion and empathy -- something the institutions in 'Made in Britain' are sorely lacking, and which Alan Clarke rightly suggests as being part of the reason people like Travis continue on their self-destructive path. For all his faults, the UK's social welfare programs had next to no compassion or patience for people like this, instead preferring to throw them into a secluded cell and threaten them with, well, more violence. And so the cycle of abuse continues. Sorry for the paragraph, but I would appreciate any insight you may have -- with regard to the film, extremism or nihilism in general, whatever -- as I find this topic to be rather fascinating, especially when told by someone who has lived that same lifestyle. Cheers, and thanks in advance.

@@PayneToTheMax "Life after hate" is just a propagandaoperation. They use actors portraying "reformed" people. The "far right" of today isn't about hate, but the love of their nation. That's my asessment as an outside observer. A suspicios observer. Objectively, where do you see violence coming from, from the far right? Cause I don't see that. Except from a few outliers once or twice a decade - globally.
