Where has our tax money gone??? We have The lowest corporate tax rate (for the rich) yet the highest income tax rate (for the poor) in history. More billionaires and food banks than there’s ever been. The wealth is still in the country it’s just harder to see when it’s domiciled in the tax havens of the rich and not being used to fix the infrastructure that they benefit from the most. The wealthy benefit financially from the most. They benefit financially from a healthy population from an educated workforce. The tories took the shortest NHS wait times in history and made them into the longest (and that was before the pandemic.) They flatlined our economic growth for a decade. They raised our taxes they tripled our debt they sold off our infrastructure to their mates and threw parties while we couldn’t bury our loved ones, that their incompetence killed. A misguided ideology of hate and privilege. Shame on everyone who repeatedly voted Tory and allowed this to happen to our public sector. Shame on them for the state of the NHS, the economy our boarders, our military, our schools and our prisons.

I'm personally not in poverty, but I know I couldn't support a child right now, and I choose not to bring a new child into an untenable situation. There's never a perfect time to have a child, but there are certainly bad times to do so. Is there more we could do to fill the "voids" you mention? Whether or not we believe the government should entirely subsidize childrearing, we're nowhere close to that at the moment.

I have ( unfortunately) been in hospital half a dozen times recently and have asked the nurses about their ‘issues’. Firstly…..none of them said they would go on strike….ever. ? Child benefit is for the child's benefit solely. When the parents don't earn enough, they get subsidized so that the child can have their needs met. If you earn enough, you should be able to care for your child by yourself. The social net, everybody pays in and when in need you can take out, is a zero sum game. It's not a bonus you get for having a child.
