On November 2, the LBJ Library and LBJ Foundation hosted a discussion on LBJ’s sweeping legacy by some of our nation’s top scholars to mark the publication of LBJ’s America: The Life and Legacies of Lyndon Baines Johnson.
The second examined President Johnson’s achievements in the areas of civil rights, race relations, and immigration. Dr. Mark Lawrence, Director of the LBJ Presidential Library, served as moderator. Panelists included: Joshua Zeitz, contributing editor at Politico Magazine and former faculty member at Harvard, Cambridge, and Princeton; Madeline Y. Hsu, Professor of history at UMD College Park and director of the Center for Global Migration Studies; and Peniel Joseph, founding director of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, associate dean for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at the LBJ School of Public Affairs, and professor of history at UT.
