I own a LC Smith Featherweight Field Grade with US Army proof markings (1942 serial number). These were used by the Army Air Force in training bomber gunners. Essentially, they shot skeet. This included shooting at targets from moving carriages, etc. Valuable lessons in leading your target, etc.

at 1:04 and 1:06 if you go frame by frame (use < and > while paused) you can see the wad and shot leaving the barrel for 1 frame! :D
