This song is about the utter emptiness of getting everything you ever wanted, and of realizing that your hunger is infinite, while anything that might satiate that hunger for a little while is finite.

Yeah it's like what's the point dude?? School. Work. Die. Work so your descendants can go to school. So they can then go to work. Rinse and repeat. No time nor energy for anything else. When can you actually do what you want? What if I want to read all day and not worry about anything? What if I just want to listen to this album all day? No, you always have to be doing something. But it can't be anything you want to do because you have to do this other thing soon. Not now, but soon. So when can I do what I want? Never. Just. School. Work. Die. All so you can have a pretty house (not a home, who has time nor money for a "home"?), in a pretty neighborhood, with a pretty partner. All so your descendant can live in a pretty house one day, in a pretty neighborhood, with a pretty partner. School. Work. Die. That's it. :)

"find the place where you can be boring where you won't need to explain that you're sick in the head and you wish you were dead or atleast instead of sleeping you'd prefer your own bed" is such a haunting lyric to me because it's like i wrote it myself. it's terrifying. it perfectly sums up a point in my (pretty toxic) relationship with this girl i used to be friends with and partly why it ended. so many words in this song seem so identical to different points in my life. it feels so personal.

Lyrics Wake up with somebody near you And at someone else's place You took acid and looked in the mirror Watched the beard crawl around on your face Oh, the revolution was here That would set you free from those bourgeoisie In the morning everything's clearer When the sunlight exposes your age But that's okay And that's okay Grab your clothes and head to the doorway If you dance out, no one complains Find the place where you can be boring Where you won't need to explain That you're sick in the head and you wish you were dead Or at least instead of sleeping here you prefer your own bed, come on You just suck at self-preservation Versus someone else's pain So you feel drained And insane And insane He was leather and you were screaming Swinging chains against the stage And you couldn't know he was leaving But now more will go with age, you know So get up and stop your complaining You know that you're the only one who's been destroying all the fun Look what happened when you were dreaming Then punch yourself in the face So you kiss and you clutch but you can't fight that feeling That your one true love is just awaiting your big meeting So you never even asked for names You just look right through them as if you already came It's a drug of the heart and you can't stop the shaking Cause the body wants what it's terrible at taking, oh And you can't remember the meaning But there's no going back against this California feeling Dream (Sha-bang, sha-bang) American dream (Sha-bang, sha-bang) American dream (Sha-bang, sha-bang) American dream (Sha-bang, sha-bang)

I want to wake up to someone somebody near me, and at someone else's place. This song is so raw. I can see this being a song that two people listen to 20 years from now, and them remembering their first time sleeping together, and then they slowly dance in the night to their memories of that night when they were young, reckless, lovers. They have found their place to be boring, with each other, to this song.

My best friend Jazmin showed me this song, I don’t really listen to it too often, but i shuffled my music today and this song was the first one that played and I just remembered the good times, the long night drives on those cold days, our drives every summer day drinking Starbucks with an extra venti cup of water mine with no ice lol cause it was hot as fuck, smoking and eating a smoked bacon sandwich having random conversations, talking about our love life, our fantasies, dreams, sad moments. I remember you always had a smile on your face even if you were going thru some hard shit. And with this song, as soon as it starts, that’s how I remember you, smiling and I remember your “ugly laugh” like you used to call it. But now, this year things are different, we’re going on separate ways, I’m not quite sure why you decided to just not talk to me anymore, I can think of something but not exactly why. I understand, maybe it’s good for you to be away from me, maybe you’re better without me. Maybe you found a new best friend. Idk, but you’ll always have a special place in my heart, I will always love you and I miss you, and I hope you can think of me every now and then like I think of you. Thanks for being my best friend for so many years! You made me really happy. I’m sure you won’t see this comment but I had to let it out. I love you Juanita

This is beautiful in the first two bars. Like love, and sadness, and loss, and the beach, and candy. Specifically, fine chocolate. And dream sleep.

James, this is seriously too good. "So you kiss and you clutch but you can't fight that feeling/That your one true love is just awaiting your big meeting" I. Feel. This. Lyric. So. Much. TT_TT

I feel ya! I was minutes from falling asleep, then began listening to the track and proceeded to spend the next four hours of my night having an existential crisis. And I'm not even upset about it. Not in the slightest.

Those first few seconds (before that jarring wave of sound) really completes this song for me. A shame that version is not on spotify.
