I think main problem is they don't make TVs that last anymore. I remember my parent's old TV lasted 20 years when I was growing up. Most now are good to see 5 years of life.

U are absolutely right. Imagine calling Vizio and the only thing they can advise is that I go buy a new tv because they know if will cost me more to fix it. This is a $700 tv that have only used for 3 years 😢. I really wish someone could sue them for using inferior materials in making the tvs of this generation and extorting money from people by charging so much for them.

Brilliant! Thanks very much for posting this. I put my TV (white screen with sound, like yours) in my greenhouse (90F) for 1 hour. And it almost works. But the picture is as if I was on psychedelic 🍄 mushroom. However, the next day after cooling overnight at room temperature, it's still working, albeit with psychedelic image. I'm going to try again for longer time.

Weatherstrip square foam rolls with adhesive on one side. Cut a piece the proper length and apply. When you reattach the frame, it will put pressure across the contact points. Sometimes, it can last years. Low cost too. Rock on!

Thanks for the video! For sure that helped me! I don't have an issue like this right now but if I run across this in the future, I'll know what to do. What I will do though, is find out which of those traces aren't making good contact, then I will scrape away at the top of the cable and run small jumpers with some 36 or 40 AWG enamel coated wire. Then I'll use PCB solder mask on top of that. That should give it a permanent fix. Thanks again for the video! 👍

Even if the intermittent connection could be fixed with solder (it can't), no human being could possibly fix it the way you propose.

@johncordey2769

Due to its design, there is poor heat dissipation during the early life of this lcd...so the constant heating up and cooling down will eventually cause the contacts to separate. The packing tape is cellophane with a glue surface which will soften as the unit heats up....so a short term fix stays short term...use a thermal resistant glue and clamps/weights and let it cure over 72 hours...before subjecting it to normal use...the fact that the heat vents are not big enough and get clogged up with dust is why the internal temp gets too high..thus contacts held together with epoxy etc..reach failure needlessly..so drill some extra holes in the rear case which wont be seen from the front will also keep the running temps down. This same reason why older lcd displays get vertical bars because the top of the display is always getting to hot, and causing the bonding to separate.

From my understanding, those film connectors each only control a column of the LCD, a few inches wide. If you were to cut one off, the rest of the LCD would still work, minus the area beneath it. With that in mind, the problem can't be a loose connection with that film cable, otherwise it wouldn't affect the whole screen. I think the problem is more likely to be one of the components in the corner of the source driver board. Since you already established that the problem can be temporarily solved by heat, you could probably pinpoint the exact location using a lighter.

According to pages 40 and 52 of Kent Liew's 2016 "LED/LCD Screen Panel Repair" ebook (available from LCDRepairGuide.com), all white screen is caused by loss of VGH (VON) voltage from the source driver board. When VGH is present, TFT cells in the LCD panel switch ON and the display shows. If VGH is missing or abnormal, symptoms will be "slow motion, white screen, display darkness or display blank." We also learn (from Kent Liew) that VGH typically measures between 20V and 30V. The VGA test point on this TV can be seen at 06:49 in the video. Although not shown, I measured a steady 19.8 volts both there and on the trace at the input of TAB/COF. It didn't matter whether the screen was all white or displaying normally. 19.8 volts was always present. Based on that (assuming Kent Liew is correct), it's reasonable to conclude that the VON signal is intermittently lost somewhere inside the TAB/COF. One thing I know for sure, probing with a cigarette lighter is not going to fix it.

As currently manufactured, COF cables are attached to LCDs with conductive adhesive applied via a robotic, ultrasonic energy machine. Read about the process here: www.eesemi.com/wirebond.htm Regarding the video you saw, did the guy with "real soldering skills" show you the TV working after he "soldered" everything back together? I've seen those videos too and none of the ones I saw show a working TV at the end. Ask yourself why.

@LawrencePina
@LawrencePina 11 ай бұрын
If your TV was a low mileage car that had been parked/stored for some time, and wouldn't start (or even roll) now that you need it again, the mechanic would be telling you "It's not the miles. It's the age." When a classic automobile is stored, any gasoline left in the tank turns to varnish. Carburetor passages get plugged The engine won't start. Barely used tires get dry rotted and go flat. Wheel cylinders freeze. Brake lines rot. Drive belts rot. Hoses rot, and so on, and so on, and so on. In the case of your TV, the conductive glue which bonds the COF cables to the LCD has lost its grip. There's no permanent fix for that, but if you squeeze the frame around the LCD as shown at the end of the video, you may be able to restore the picture, at least temporarily. Like classic cars that have been stored, your TV didn't get used, but it broke anyway. Read through the comments. Lots of people got their TVs working again with a tap or a squeeze, typically in the upper left corner of the bezel. Maybe that will work for you. Good luck! Thanks for commenting.

Did you make sure the phillip's head screw in the left upper corner was tight? I am sure you did, but...
@LawrencePina
@LawrencePina 4 жыл бұрын
I did see it. Over tightening the rear cover screws doesn't put pressure on the display panel assembly. All those screws do is fasten the rear cover into the front cover. And, if you fasten them too tightly, heat related expansion and contraction (of the cabinets) can cause loud snapping noises. Experience has taught me to snug TV covers but not over tighten.

I'm thinking you might have entered the service menu or maybe the TV got disconnected in the middle of a firmware update? It's hard to say. Also, be aware that the TV in this video is a pre-2012 model with florescent backlights. The very few TCL TVs that have come my way have all been post-2014 models with LED backlights. Big difference between the two types of TVs. The last TCL I fixed had an RF (air TV antenna) connector that had been ripped out of the digital board. Nothing resembling your symptoms. It might help to post the model number and manufacturing date of your TV. With that info, someone who knows exactly what's wrong may reply to you. Good luck! Thanks for commenting.

What a great example of whether zebras are white with black stripes or black with white stripes. Here's why I say that: Three things commonly go wrong with LCD/LED TV displays. 1. The tiny LEDs mounted below the diffuser caps burn out (shorted condition) causing instant safety shutdown on powerup. 2. The diffuser caps fall off causing very bright white spots on the screen, but that's not your problem. 3. The tiny LEDs mounted below the diffuser caps burn out (open condition) causing dark spots on the screen. Your TV is almost certainly suffering from dark spots, but you ask this question in context of "whte spots all over the screen" meaning you might be someone who sees the black zebra. That's what makes your question so interesting. From your description, I'm guessing 1/2 of the individual LEDs in your TV have burned out. When that happens, it's best to replace all of the LED strips. Note the part numbers on the strips and see if you can get brand new ones (not used/pulls and definitely not remanufactured strips) from aliexpress.com. If the price is right, you might also want to pay extra for 7 to 10 days guaranteed delivery service. Otherwise, with free shipping service, the order might take 12 weeks or more to arrive. To learn about dark spots caused by burned out LEDs and how to confirm that this is your problem before ordering brand new LED strips, please watch: LG 42LN5700 - 47LN5400 LED TV Screen Repair Secrets, and LG 50UH5500 UHD Smart TV Repair Secrets. @LawrencePina
@LawrencePina 5 жыл бұрын
Lyndon, It's not the T-Con board. White screen is caused by loss of VGH (VON) signal to the LCD. Cause has to be the same as shown. Either there is a loose or corroded LVDS cable (not making good contact on one or both ends) or an open TAB/COF on the source driver board in the display panel assembly (exactly the same as shown in this video). Did you try squeezing the bezel as shown at the end of the video?

In my experience, older Sharp TVs tend to develop loose or corroded LVDS connections on the source driver board. You may have to remove the display bezel to do it, but reseating the upper LVDS cable connection may correct your problem, permanently. It's worth a try!
@LawrencePina
@LawrencePina 5 жыл бұрын
Possibly because a metal frame is preventing you from squeezing the TAB/COF. Try shimming something between them. In this video I used packing tape. Others use rubber bumpers. Fill the void between the frame and the cable and you should be able to affect the problem even after the TV has been put back together. It's just an exercise. Other than replacing the display panel (not an option because you can't buy them here in the US) there's no permanent fix.

Three things you can do: 1. Unplug the TV. Take the back off. Carefully vacuum out all of the dust, keeping the brush well above the circuit boards. Use a clean paint brush to carefully dislodge any stuck dust. 2. Provided there are no children or behaviorally challenged adults in the home, leave the back off. Problem solved. 3. Otherwise, reattach the back and place a small fan directly behind the TV. Any small personal fan, preferably one with a remote control (so that you can conveniently switch the fan ON/OFF as needed) will also solve the problem. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting!

Thanks. Does this apply to gaming handhelds like the PS Vita? It's likely the flex cable. Put a solder on the cable to resolder it (unless the wire inside is cut then you got to connect the pin with thin wire. Don'y solder for too long it'll melt the flex cable. The TV must have moved frequently or it fell/got banged up and gave the flex cable metal fatigue. Got to table the flex cables. God bless, Proverbs 31

I don't know anything about the PS Vita gaming handheld but I do know that one can not solder TAB/COF assemblies. They are not soldered. They are electro-chemically bonded. God bless, 9th Commandment

How to remove power only v3.25 lg tv
@LawrencePina
@LawrencePina 3 жыл бұрын
By "power only" do you mean standby LED comes on, but nothing else? Is there a blink code when you try to turn ON ? Do you get audio but no video? With the rear cover off, an you see back lights through the witness holes? Please be more specific. Start with the model number of the TV...

Sorry but this did not really work for our tv. So if you guys have any solutions please tell me So our tv is Toshiba and it’s actually pretty old but before the screen was very clear the appearance on each channel is HD but earlier when we opened the tv it changed color mostly white and a very light screen we tried several methods but none worked, we started to worry because we don’t have any budget for repairs and my parents cant work since my mom had covid. Its very difficult cause besides from our gadgets the tv is our only entertainment. So please if you have and solutions for us so try please tell us

In my experience, too bright symptom on VGA monitors was often caused by high ESR capacitors on the tiny board connecting to the LVDS cable.

The purpose of this video was to show that white screen symptom is generally caused by a failed display panel assembly. There is no easy fix. New boards are NOT going to fix a TV with a failed display panel. But, you might be able to make the symptoms come and go by applying heat and or pressure to the upper left corner of the screen. Nothing applies 100% of the time, but in many cases, it's a quick, temporary solution. That's been my experience, but others are free to disagree...

Hit it a slap on the side or top. Usually fixes it. No need to do all this shit.

Unless you want to know exactly what (board?) is causing the problem. Hitting the TV a slap on the side doesn't answer that question!

Very bad info you are giving sir... i have 20+ yrs of experince on tv repair and its not thing you say...it fyi the tab is not glue (conductive glue)... its solder ... dont make videos if you dont know what your doing .... and the tape works because ur puting pressure on the bonds ... bad info ... sir
@LawrencePina
@LawrencePina 5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. There's nothing to solder! TAB/COF assemblies are held in place with glue. Then, their microscopic connections (concealed beneath the film) are made using an electochemical process. You couldn't resolder them (even if you cut away the top layer of film and exposed them, even if you has superhuman eyesight, even if you had nonexistent, microscopically fine soldering equipment and a robot-steady hand) because they were never soldered in the first place. Other than replacing the entire display assembly, the only permanent fix is to replace the failed TAB/COF with new one. That requires a skilled operator and very expensive remanufacturing equipment. Search for "Tape Automated Bonding Machine" to see how it's done...

Not gonna argue with some one that has no experince on electronics... i have more than 20+ yrs experince on fixing tv ... i know how they work and how to fix them an yes they are solder with a machine ... not glue... learn on how to fix tv instead of giving wrg info sir.. tabs are solder on but thats ok not gonna argue with some one that has no experince on electronics... u go ahead and put tape or what ever u want to fix your tv or go put it out in the sun again... just dont do videos on things u have no idea how they work... and fyi glue will not let curents lvds signal go threw .... LEARN HOW TO FIX ELECTRONICS ...
@LawrencePina

I can't speak to your motives, but there's no shortage of TAB Bonding Machine videos both here on KZfaq and on AliBaba. View them and you'll see that heat is used to carefully remove the old TAB/COF. Acetone is used to remove the old glue residue. Alcohol is used to clean both the glass and the electrodes. ACF glue strips are applied to both the source driver board and the LCD panel. You'll see other chemicals being applied. You'll see a skilled operator working at very high magnification at a very expensive TAB bonding machine. The one thing you're not going to see is soldering equipment and solder. But despite all the evidence to the contrary, you still maintain that this is very bad info and that you can fix failed TAB/COFs with solder. Please, make us a video showing how it's done!
