I think it isn't referring directly to the types of eclipses but more to what the picture is. Even though it is called a solar eclipse, the moon is black and blocking the soon. Therefore, the abyss could be the darkness of the moon over the sun.

Why do people keep saying this should be called Solar Abyss? If you think about it this way the Moon is blocking the Sun, causing an abyss, it could just as well be a Lunar Abyss because the Moon is sending the Earth into a metaphorical abyss.
