God's love for you is not dependent on your Church activity. Understand that there are many jobs that can prevent regular church attendance. Know that you are very much loved, especially by other members. You are in-tune with the Holy Ghost, and God is aware of you, your needs and special desires to seek and follow Him. Remember who you are and whom you serve

Your heart is definitely in the right place :) we are taught here a little and there a little, as long as we are honestly trying to live as Jesus Christ taught, I believe things will all be ok.

As someone who has stepped away from the church I have found that I have to be the peacemaker with family members who feel empowered to preach their faith to me, but refuse to hear my story because it is framed as invalid and not faith promoting.

Good that Elder Anderson gave a talk for people struggling to be peacemakers. And "blessed be the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God". Never stop trying to make peace and to improve in doing so.

8:00 I do not mean this comment to disparage the apostles of this church. I just feel to share that as a gay member of the Church who was once living a sinful life, but has now chosen celibacy because of my love of and conviction to God, the Church's support of this bill concerns me. Outlawing conversion therapy was part of this bill. And the issue with that is that it can be and has been used in other states to ban therapists from even suggesting to someone to remain faithful to their religion if their religion has any teachings against homosexual activity. Which would mean that some of the therapy I received when choosing celibacy could've been illegal if laws like this were in place at the time. I love God and I am dedicated to keeping my covenants. I have had great need in my life of repentance and in my younger years therapy. I cannot understand why the church would support such a bill, or why LGBT issues seem to be talked about far more carefully now when, for me, it was the directness of the doctrine that changed my heart and mind to follow God.

It's always been so hard for me to teach people the concept of living contrary to their sexual orientation because many people feel like it's part of their core identity. We all have trials to overcome, and we all need to humble ourselve and change to conform to God's will, but I can't imagine how difficult it would be to give something like this up for God. It shows me how much you do love God. It shows your humility. I'm grateful for your example brother. I too share your concerns, but ultimately I trust the prophets as mouth pieces of God. I know they mean well by this action. Perhaps they did make a mistake by supporting this bill, but they are also men. They can make mistakes, but I don't believe they will make a big enough mistake to prevent the work from moving forward. Remember who's church this is. Love you brother, hope this helps ease some concern

As someone who is also gay, I would have to strongly disagree with you. Conversion therapy has been proven to be ineffective and harmfully mentally, emotionally and physically. Banning conversion therapy is one of the best things that can be done. It would not prevent a therapist from helping you to live how you wanted to, but it would prevent them from encouraging you to live as if you were heterosexual because that has been shown to be harmful and to increase suicide rates. Best practices in therapy are determined by the scientific method, not by if you feel like something should be that way.

That is confusing and frustrating to consider.... the Lord calls the weak and the simple to do the best they can, and crap tonnes of mistakes are made..... Its just been in the past few years the brethren finally understood we have been offending and blaspheming God by calling ourselves mormons for over a century and a half! Slow slow slowwww slowwwwwwwww are Gods people to learn... but we still do... eventually... after some years, decades, centuries.... its all for our good to keep trying in the Spirit of Romans 14

dfre102 I can't thank you enough for your comment! You and your brave life/comment give me hope for my son. And I agree with the words you speak here. It's concerning to me as well. Clearly I love my (actively gay) son. I love him so much I'd die for him. I love him so much that I don't want him confused by the messages that we are getting from some general authorities and church members. Our love cannot save them in their sins. No matter how much I love him and no matter how much he loves me....and no matter how many times the church comes out with "LGBTQ support" it's never going to change that fact. What they are, in essence, saying, is that SOME people can't help their behavior so they'll be exalted anyway. They rc explaining them from the very blessings that our Savior's Atonement provides them because "they can't help themselves". Or that if we just love them more, they can continue sinful behavior and still gain exaltation with the "family" (ie gay marriage) they claim to have. This makes me so sad. The doctrine is clear.... But again..... I'm so grateful for YOU!!!!

I think it's important to sustain Apostles of the Lord- not just by uplifting the hand but always in word and deed. It's not about endorsing anything here. It's about following the Savior and establishing peace. It's what disciples of Christ are to do: love everyone, be good to everyone and respect others. If you prefer to be loyal to some politics rather than loyal to the Lord and his annointed, and join the political fashion to be angry and maybe even hateful towards the opposition you may not find happiness and peace. Additionally you risk your spiritual well-being. If you suggest that it's justified hating people for the bad that they do that's not compatible with what the Lord taught and Elder Oaks gave a talk on a few conferences ago: love thine enemies, bless them that curse you. You don't fight evil with evil. Satan uses politics to divide a country, a people and even lead astray members in the church. I'm certain Elder Anderson is not mislead here.

There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there's perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books.

The book of Mormon has one of the greatest examples of peace makers. What he did , Captain Moroni. They be enemies by law and by truth a oath to supporting a army to living in a land , a country state as the articles of faith teach. The Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. The state of being able to function is by the articles of faith to witness the example. They lived in peace by a oath to be different and support the protection of a Country. A Peacemaker by oath the law to be without the truth by choice to live life as you worship it. The scriptures teach , a season , and that season be dead. And is a good thing. In Jesus Christ name by the Prophet President Joseph Smith. President Brigham Young knows this.

Bible Dictionary “Prophet”: “It is also the prophet’s duty to denounce sin and foretell its punishment and to redress, so far as he could, both public and private wrongs. He was to be, above all, a preacher of righteousness. When the people had fallen away from a true faith in Jehovah, the prophets had to try to restore that faith and remove false views about the character of God and the nature of the divine requirement.” Were Jeremiah, Isaiah, Lehi, Ezra Taft Benson and Jesus Christ considered peacemakers when they boldly spoke out against the evils of their day and repeatedly called them to forsake wickedness and REPENT before their destruction by God? Pandering to the ideology of spiritual Babylon is not the role of a Special Witness.

Yes. The spirit of contention is not of Christ, that men contend one with another with anger. His doctrine is that such should be done away. We resist sin not with violence, but with pure love unfeigned. It is not easy to do, but if we hold to the iron rod and remember how Captain Moroni strove to limit bloodshed in all his battles - then we understand more how to resist sin. Finally, the example of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies shows us the outcome of pure nonviolent resistance: unlike other battles where the fallen could not be numbered, not only were the fallen numbered, but the number of those who left the attackers and joined the defenders in a commitment to peace was numbered greater than the number of the fallen. We learn there that while the enemy of peace will rage against us, there is greater strength in the righteous suffering and deep sacrifices of the peacemaker.

It's a bout condemning the sin and not the sinner. But we are to love our neighbors and even our enemies and bless them that curse you and especially if you think people need to change and thus need Christ in their lives. Elder Anderson gave a wonderful talk, which will bless you if you heed the counsel of an Apostle of the Lord. We shall not find justification of anger and hate towards any children of God- no matter what. Our obligation is to love to forward the Lord's cause. Contention is giving in to the other side.

@@An_Economist_Plays Is avoiding contention the greatest value of The Gospel? Or are there other values of more importance? If it is, then Satan has already won, because the mere existence of a person living pick-a-commandment will cause contention with a nonbeliever. Should we change our beliefs to appease the world, and thus avoid contention? Keep in mind that to Laman and Lemuel, Nephi was contentious. To the Egyptians, Moses was contentious. The Jewish and Roman leaders of the day, Jesus was contentious. We should avoid being contentious out of spite, but there is a point where wisdom dictates to keep pressing forward.
