@@liquidsk8s How can you cope this hard. No matter what stats are put in front of people theres always a "but, maybe, if, uhm, you can" Real life racing is about *winning* If steering makes you tired ANY more than necessary, you are giving your opponent an advantage. In real life WIDE tires give you REALLY SHITTY steering feel. If you want finesse like on a sim, you have to get the cars that feel divine to drive. And what are those? F430, 360 modena? and what do they have? NO weight on the front and PENCIL thin tyres 235s. If you read serious articles from EVO magazine from yesteryear, or look at these really good professional writers and car reviewers, they'll occasionally review race cars and literally talk about how numb the front end is, and how you have to use so much learned gut instinct. I don't undesrtand how in one sentence people will say crap about everything needs to come through the steering wheel, then at the same time say that IRL it's about analysing the forces in your bum in the IRL chair, and not realise that so much ISN'T in the wheel. Where things lack is software and simulation of rubber elasticity when changing temperatures. Even driving 0 power steering or hydrolic steering isn't as heavy as a 20nm wheel or 15nm. Because engineering is put into steering rack weight to design it to a *reasonable* standard to achieve a goal. Steer the car in multiple types of contrasting extreme scenarios and retain as much control without adversley effecting the "regular" driving zones of the vehicle in question.

@@FirssenSimracing my point being you don’t need 25Nm but I didn’t discard the fact that you could get better fidelity and better motor if you invest a high end base. Just you don’t need to crank up the torque to 25Nm

I mean, let's put this a bit into perspective. He runs a DD2, which at 35% has still about 9Nm of torque. That's plenty, and more than most sim racers probably use. He additionally runs a motion system which already provides him with a lot of information. Sim racers who don't have that, tend to go a bit higher with the force feedback to compensate and get more information through the wheel.

The clarity and detail is nice with higher nm wheel bases but that's about all I would need it for. I have a Simucube 2 sport and that is plenty. Some drivers say that real race cars force feels about 10nm.

It entirely depends on the car your driving. For his specific car, around 10Nm is realistic. But what about F2? They run 30-35Nm in real life. You need to adjust the TQ to match the vehicle as the steering forces can vary by a lot.

I would counterpoint in the sense that we're adding a lot of forces through the wheel that are present IRL but cannot be in the sim. It's legitimately easier to drive when you have 20nm than when you have 5, and only takes a couple of weeks to get used to it. Filipe wants to replicate the forces he's got IRL because the simulator is for training, whereas the esport drivers are looking to min-max the videogame. All my SC2 Pro bros use the whole 25nm.

I would guess having a big motor with a good margin in the settings helps with durability and precision. I don't think running a weak wheel at 100% is good for the motor. My T300 keeps overheating even with an aftermarket fan but that's another problem.

more tougher steering = more delicate/precise steering for those of us with more than average strength and a history of driving vehicles with power steering racks with the pump removed (ratio is tougher to turn, but it isn't bad to some of us). I hated the experience of a demo wheel G928 or something, I could feel myself overpowering its belt drive without trying as I didn't realize the demo was just a video with the steering turning itself. I realized fast I would break the $2xx unit with pedals pretty fast unintentionally; though my kids might love it. I'd rather not under-buy and be disappointed. Let's just say if I walked out with that unit because of the price; I'd have had buyer's remorse as soon as I tested all the settings and realized there was not much I could do. So I don't care for the diminishing of those of us with a legitimate desire for a strong wheel. I work at a horse farm and carry 7gal buckets filled with 5gal water in each hand (x30) plus tossing 30gal muck buckets for a few hours a day, turning a 20+ Nm steering wheel would not be 'tiring' in the slightest for me unless I was doing a multi-hour endurance race without breaks on a twisty af course. I'm starting to feel the WoW Classic 'you think you do, but you don't' statement is applying to these creators who get the stuff for free saying we want too much lol Sorry, but I'll wait and save for the good stuff; rather the kids learn on something I can adjust up instead of them reaching a point they are messing up the cheap stuff too.

Exactlyy! This is why I have such a hard time listening to some sim racers advice on how to build my rig, I don’t care about being jerked around randomly because that isn’t realistic. Even in karting, no power steering etc its barely a fraction of a G920, let alone a fanatec or something stronger… (although I do want one😂)

I love real race drivers can never agree on this 😆 One will ACC is like the real thing, the other will say it feels weird. Wheel forces depend on the car you're driving. Modern cars? Yes, he's right. But if you're simulating group C cars with no power steering and high downforce you'll only be able to do it justice having at least 25Nm force.
