In this session, we're going to learn about the Plus-Que-Parfait tense in French. This tense is used to describe actions that had already been completed before another action in the past. It's an important part of mastering French, especially for storytelling and narrating past events. It's similar to the past perfect tense in English. For example, 'I had eaten before they arrived' translates to 'J'avais mangé avant qu'ils n'arrivent.

This is the first part of the video in which we are discussing only Basic and Movement forms of Plus-que-parfait.
Formation of the Plus-que-parfait
The plus-que-parfait is formed by combining the imperfect tense of the auxiliary verb (avoir or être) with the past participle of the main verb. Let's break this down:
Auxiliary Verb: Use the imperfect form of 'avoir' or 'être.'
Avoir: j'avais, tu avais, il/elle/on avait, nous avions, vous aviez, ils/elles avaient
Être: j'étais, tu étais, il/elle/on était, nous étions, vous étiez, ils/elles étaient
Past Participle: Use the past participle of the main verb.
Example: 'manger' becomes 'mangé,' 'aller' becomes 'allé.
