YOSA Music Director Troy Peters will explore how the traditions and practice of orchestral conducting can offer insights to help all of us lead and collaborate more effectively. Working with a small orchestra of live musicians, Peters will demonstrate what a conductor does on the podium, with the goal of unleashing the maximum potential of each musician on stage.
Troy Peters has been Music Director of YOSA (Youth Orchestras of San Antonio) since 2009. Sobre Sound named his “OK Computer Live” project, in which a dozen local bands covered Radiohead’s landmark album backed by YOSA at the Tobin Center, as San Antonio’s top moment in music for 2015.
He has guest conducted many orchestras, including the Oregon Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and Vermont Symphony Orchestra. He was previously Music Director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra and Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, and conducted college orchestras at Texas State University and Middlebury College.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Bravo!!! I shared this piece with 300 employees today at the US Department of Veterans Affairs. My observations is that Troy's message can easily be applied to the workplace, the family, and even sports teams. Understanding that Troy is a gifted storyteller, just notice how very few in the orchestra actually look at Troy when they do their best performance at the end. The highly trained musicians acting as an orchestra (team) simply know where he is going; they are familiar with him and his style; they're confident in his abilities and supremely confident in their own (trust); they know his heart and they come alive while executing the score of music together. Imagine how you can bring these same concepts to the workplace and create a masterpiece, I for one am willing to try.

If you doubt a conductor's worth, arrange to sit through the first rehearsal of a symphony.
