I could see a difference. If nothing else the barrel is shining on the inside and that’s got to be slicker. Thanks 6 Shooter.

2 questions: 1) Do you have to coat the barrel to prevent the lead from sticking to the inside of the barrel, if so what to use? 2) Is that a deer at the 12 minute mark in the background? Thanks.
@sixshootertexan3 ай бұрын
No you do not coat the barrel. Yes that was a yard deer.

Heard you say you also do this on air rifles. I am curious because I want to try this in a small .20 caliber rifle. But the lead when pouring solidifies before it will run in the barrel. And it’s frustrating me on how to get it to go into the barrel.
@sixshootertexan Жыл бұрын
Warm the barrel up some but not hot. Get the lead temperature up some more. If you're only around 650 degrees, it will solidify too quickly.

what is this procedure for? to clean the barrel from lead deposits? Very strange. Dilute hydrogen peroxide and vinegar 50/50 pour into the barrel. then clean with a brush. repeat the procedure several times. lead oxide can be black yellow and red. Depends on composition
@sixshootertexan Жыл бұрын
Polishing the imperfections out. This can help in the prevention of leading. Makes general cleaning a lot easier. It also will help improve accuracy. High-end high dollar barrels are polished at the factory.

So... Lead is softer than steel , right? Has it occurred to you that you're lapping the lead plug and using the barrel to do so?
@sixshootertexan5 ай бұрын
It's called sacrificial. You don't want the lap to be harder than the barrel. If the lead lap wears out before you accomplish your desired results, just make another. Plus, try to pour molded steel into your barrel to make a lap.

I've never heard of lapping a barrel, I know about lapping scope rings, but not a barrel

No sir just trying to keep it from getting it all over the barrel and cleaning rod. It will dull a blue finish fast. Thanks for watching.
@jonleone7773 ай бұрын
Once the lap is made it should never come out of the barrel untill your done lapping. Push it out just far enough to add compound. Also if you heat the barrel with a heat gun the lap will form better.
