My friend's mom had a large hibiscus. When she died, all her daughters wanted the plant. They had me make leaves from it for each of them, all in different colors. The hibiscus leaves were gorgeous, and I found smaller leaves which I used to make earrings that matched each bowl. I can't wait to try your technique. These are really beautiful.

Lovely! I did some leaf coasters with white polymer clay, and then took alcohol ink and carefully added it with a small brush to the base where the largest vein is. I then tipped the coaster so the ink ran down the veins. When that dried, then I added other colors to the rest of the leaf. I also made a barrette for my hair this way.

Unfortunately we are already under a foot of snow and bitter cold so the chances of finding any leaves at all in tact is about zero, but the idea for next year or taking fake leaves and using them is most definitely on the crafting horizon. You continue to amaze me with your beautiful and unique creations. Hope all is well and you and your family are safe. ♥️♥️

Ooooh so much snow, wow!! Yes any of the artificial leaves, silk or plastic, or the leaf moulds you can buy would all work well, as long as they have the good vein detail :) You stay safe too :)

I made a bowl with a leaf that very thick (like a holly leaf) and would not bend. I had to take it off the leaf to form the bowl shape. Unfortunately, the clay stuck to the leaf. Had I known this would happen, I would have coated the leaf with corn starch. I had to put it through the pasta machine again which left me with clay that was over mixed. I added a little Inka Gold and then coated it with Renaissance wax. I’m very happy with the way it finally turned out. I’ll send a picture when I figure out how to attach it.

Thank you, Fiona. Working on my first little bowl right now. Why not create and bake the little support feet with the first baking, unattached, but to avoid a second baking? I made more than three little legs and flattened them slightly on top and bottom, so at least three of them should work out without having to rebake the bowl. Just wondering. Thank you, Jackie.
@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie, absolutely add the feet at the same time if you wish :) I had to actually shoot this video twice, and the first time, I did say that you could do that if you had the experience to, but completely forgot in the second take ;) What I had said in the first one, was that if you were an experienced polymer clayer then you should be able to carefully add the feet, then nestle it into the mould if you wished. However, in the video I do it this way for 3 reasons. 1. Adding the feet can lead people to press into the top/side clay and obscure the vein detail and leave finger prints or other marks. Also if people have pressed too hard and made the clay thin in places, it can break if the feet are not placed to support the thin area of clay. 2. You get better paint coverage and detail, being able to remove the paint, etc, by doing the paint first, and adding the feet second. 3. I get asked a lot if you can add unbaked clay to baked, can you bake it more than once, etc, so by adding it into the process, people are doing it naturally without thinking about it, and therefore realise, that yes, you can ;) Sounds like you are adding the feet perfectly, so carry on and have fun :) I hope that helps answer your question? Thanks so much Jackie :)

I really loved this tutorial! I think it's so timely with fall around the corner.....I also love the real DIY info that you give i.e. cards for thickness, etc. It's so appreciated when ( especially) newcomers are trying to make clay products but don't have all the equipment. I really loved the melting of fall colors as you mixed them.....sometimes they looked like a picture. I have asked a few artists if when they started making something new, they envisioned the outcome and how often does it fit into their expectations. So, do you know what your endeavors are going to be going into a project....sure do wish that I could create not follow butI so enjoy your work. Thank you for many inspirational evenings and a peaceful heart!🧡💚💛

I've given them all away and so am ready to make more😁😁 I'm also thinking how can I reflect Xmas. Pine trees have needles, not leaves so ill follow your pattern but will cut out holiday shapes and will press the needle clusters in. Your work is very beautiful and unique, easily recognized. Do you think this would work if I used Sculpey 3 instead? I just have so much of it from when I first started claying and didn't know any better lol. I really need to find a bunch of ways I can use it up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂 🙏 Thanks so much for all the videos you make. You are one of my top 3 clay channels that I'm obsessed with because of how much I learn and all the great inspiration I get!

There's certainly no harm in giving it a go ;) I haven't used Sculpey 3 myself, but simply adapt the process for how you know the clay works. I would make a small one first, see how it goes, and then you can do bigger ones if it's all okay :) Just have fun and experiment :)

If you water down your paint very thin, it'll create something called a "wash" and it'll seep into all the nooks and crannies very well and give you more time to wipe off the excess.

A kindred spirit! I've never met or talked to anyone who also disliked fall! Thank you for sharing that! But yes, the leaf bowls are really pretty, despite being autumn oriented!
