Deepest condolences. The worst part of having animals is when they go, but you gave him an incredible life. He'll always live on in your memories

Unfortunetly, even with vets with decades of experience it can be a huge tossup with animals and anesthesia. The smaller the animal the more risk of sudden death even if everything is done right. So sorry that happened to you.

I’m a vet assistant… unfortunately putting such a small animal under does carry certain risks and it’s almost impossible to do super successful cpr on such a little creature. I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing my beardie was one of the hardest things that happened to me and it only gets better with time.

Anaesthesia is so rough on smaller animals. Even puppies and kittens. It’s why a lot of people don’t get their rodents, rabbits, hedgehogs, etc spayed/neutered. I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing an animal is so hard :(

I actually assumed Toes killed him like spiders will sometimes do.. This broken peepee situation is somehow better and worse at the same time. Man, that’s super awful. I’m so sorry that happened to you and that poor precious little guy. It’s rare, but sometimes the anesthetic does kill the animal.

My condolences. Complete stranger to your channel but a big exotics and veterinary nerd here. This was definitely a freak accident and not at all your fault. For one, prolapses just happen. Sometimes they’re easy to fix like what your gecko’s breeder had happen, and sometimes they are life threatening ordeals and there’s not much you can do to prevent or predict it in breeding. With the vet visit, unfortunately little guys of any species and anesthesia do not mix well. It’s very easy for it to go wrong like it did for you and takes a skilled anesthesiologist with experience in the species you’re bringing in for the least risk but it’s always there. Not only their size but the unique anatomy of reptiles that make it so difficult and risky. Don’t beat yourself up about it too much, hope you get those eggs from Toes!

I had a Florida kingsnake that had an abscess on his face and he had to be operated on. I was a mess but luckily he pulled through because I was told reptiles are not good with anaesthetics. I lost him 11 years later to cancer and I was devastated. I had him for 15 years and was so attached to him. He was the first (and best) snake I had. It hurts so much losing a beloved pet. I was in tears watching your video. I am so so sorry you and Fiji had to go through this.

Im so sorry for your loss man… I remember the freeze I had to leave my house and leave all my fish, there was no power and a night later my parents said they all died. I was devistated and It was horrible. I’m so sorry you lost Fuji but his legacy (and maybe children) will live on.

As someone who's lost plenty of reptiles over the years, let me say that this is by far the hardest part of keeping exotic pets. Especially when it comes to breeding them, there's a lot that can go wrong very quickly. I had two little banded geckos living in a 40 gallon, one male one female. They got along fine for months, and had plenty of space and food. When breeding season came around though, the male got frisky, and the female retaliated. The poor male ended up with a broken spine and died a day before I could get him into the vet. This is one of the reasons I've decided that, while I love keeping reptiles, I probably won't be trying to breed any in the near future. I'm so sorry for your loss, but know that you did everything you could to not only save him in his final moments, but provide him a happy and healthy life in the time he was with you.

Really sorry to hear this bro. A few years back in 2018 I had a crested gecko who I had for about 8 years. He started having some health issues and I took him to the vet, they gave him a calcium shot or something… but anyway his little body didn’t react well to the shot and he basically died of shock the night we brought him home. I think the lesson to be learned at the end of the day, is often time these little animals are fragile and not designed for our certain forms of treatment.

I think Fuji would be happy to see how you took care of him after death and even during life you took care of him better than most keepers♥️

I actually started to tear up, I am so sorry this happened to Fuji. I'm new to watching your videos and I love how much you care for these beautiful babies. I wish I had more time and space, I would rescue some as well. We have tons of green anoles and blue tailed skinks out here and I try to watch out for them, move them to a nice plant to hide. I have an outdoor terrarium/planter with a cover for my plants and it is nice and humid in there, I let the lizards chill there and bring them bugs. thank you for sharing and doing all that you do!

Oh man, this video made me cry. I cannot imagine how hard (and probably expensive) it was to lose him like that. Gargoyle geckos are so cool. They are one of my dream geckos for sure. I hope you got some fertile eggs at least out of this tragedy and can at least have a part of him in your life again. I'm going to go check your other videos to see if you got lucky. I’ve been there, it’s heartbreaking and it’s clear how much you loved him and continue to love him. So happy he’s a daddy! Anaesthetic can just do this, even with larger animals like dogs and cats. Animals like lizards and hamsters are crazy common for dying this way. You gave him an *incredible* life while he was here on earth.

He didn't die in agony. Because of your quick thinking, you got him to see a doctor and got him the relief he needed, he passed on without pain and discomfort. If you hadn't of intervened he would have slowly and painfully died. You gave him the ability to escape the pain. He got to live a life loved by you and when in trouble, you came to his rescue. Despite his life coming to an end, you gave him so much more than you could ever know.. sending condolences from NZ ♡

Poor Fuji, I'm so sorry. I lost my gecko Maurice during surgery earlier in the month.. she went in to have her ovaries removed due to follicular stasis, unfortunately when they opened her up they found a tumour constricting part of her gut.. totally inoperable 😔 I had to make the decision not to wake her back up. I hope both babies hatch and do well ❤

I had a similar issue happen to one of my rats. No, I don’t breed rats. I noticed that one of my rats was quite congested and wasn’t really breathing properly. I left it for a week and by then I was pretty sure he had a respiratory infection, he wasn’t eating and lost almost 200grams (he was a juvenile so he’s only supposed to be around 300grams) I take him to the vet and it turns out he does have a respiratory infection but we have antibiotics for him, although due to his dramatic weight loss his peepee has come out and is swollen. They decided he should go under so they could put it back in. There is a risk with putting small animals under but I decided to go ahead with it. And… luckily he made it! He’s now doing better and has gained 30 grams in the past week! Luckily lemon is doing very well.

Im sorry you lost your lil dude. As a person who works in veterinary surgery, anesthetic is really touchy on reptiles in general, nevermind tiny ones. Their metabolism and biology is so wildly different than a mammals, and there just isnt as much knowledge about various reptile species response to anesthetic, or even individual variation within a species, so its *always* much more risky, even for a relatively minor surgery like fixing a prolapsed hemipene. Im sorry this happened. Losing a pet to anesthetic when a surgery was successful is the worst thing I can think of. At least the little guy was able to fertilize some eggs, and his kids live on!

I've seen some of your videos before and enjoyed them but wasn't subbed or anything. I recently saw your short about him and I wanted more info. So sorry this happened. I had a kitten who passed from an engorged pubic area too so this really hit home. We brought him to the vet asap but they couldn't find out what was wrong with him before he died. Anyway I saw your Fuji from a youtube short and wanted to know more about this cute chunky boi, unfortunately it turns out he was already gone. I know how nervewracking it is to have that call from the vet, and then the blow of having the bad news being delivered. Wishing you love and hoping that his last moments were peaceful. i’m real sorry man. this type of stuff can be devastating. stay strong my friend. i know how it feels to be fighting as hard as you can for your little best friend. I keep fish and being someone who doesn’t have very many human friends my fish mean the absolute world to me and when one of them is sick it can be absolutely devastating. i’m very lucky to have some of the very best meds available a lot of which are restricted or straight up illegal where i live and also know a lot of really experienced people. this is especially important since there is no vets anywhere near me that deal with fish so you are really on your own. but still some times no matter what you do, what kind of meds you have, how hard you try you just can’t save them and it is absolutely devastating watching them slowly decline until they pass knowing that you’ve done everything you could and it still wasn’t enough. I feel your pain Man and i’ll be sending you good thoughts. Fuji will be missed dearly by many

My first leopard gecko just died three days ago after her only being alive for about 3 years. She was perfectly fine one night and when I woke up she was lying in her tank not moving or breathing. I still don’t know what happened to her and I’m trying to figure out why. She was super healthy, fat tail, not skinny, and moving around all the time. My mom won’t let me get another one, I don’t know why and I really want to try to start over and give another gecko a second chance at life instead of living in a petco and going to someone who doesn’t take care of it. I didn’t take my gecko out much and handle her but still took care of her to my best ability until her sudden passing. R.I.P Blaze

Me and my mom rescued a budgie whos legs were splayed as a hatchling, we had her for a year but she had complications with her crop because she was always laying on top of it, her crop ruptured and we took her to the vet, they gave her gas and she died almost immediately, the vet we went to all had a minimum of 15 years of knowledge, so going under is always a big risk no matter the vets experience. I miss forest, at least she is running and flying in heaven now. I'm sorry fuji passed

I can't relate, but I know the feeling of the guilt after a living dies.. and how helpless we can feel because it's not ourselves.. and then we think 'i could have done it better' and so on, i am really sorry that you had to experience this.. after decades of dreaming to breed. You made so much effort and was excited but it was unfortune. At the start of the video, i thought it would be some kind of disease, but this was just unfortunate. It's not your fault. Ofc you could have done it better but only when we had the superpower to predict the future. Keep up
