I'm working on a supplement in which the named NPCs will be assigned a home settlement, and then it's easier to hire those NPCs at the settlement. However, there is a chance that the NPC might be out on their own quest in one of the nearby quest sites, in which case the heroes will need to go to that quest site to help out the NPC on their quest. The game has a lot of opportunities to create that kind of persistent world and story, which you also demonstrated. :)

Thank you for this fantastic overview. I first came across this game in your 'League of Dungeoneers Kickstarter Preview' video many months ago and immediately backed it with an All In pledge after watching. I was already massively looking forward to receiving my copy and that has just increased even more after watching this.

Just keep an eye out for those retail copies! There were like 20 or so pledges on the Retail level, with 5 copies per such backer, so while this print-run will be quite limited you still have a chance of finding the game somewhere! :)

Excellent video as always. League of Dungeoneers looks like it has a high potential for organic and emergent narrative, given the proper perspective of play. I found your channel a month or two ago, and I've been (slowly) digesting the content in your videos. My apologies if you've covered this already and I overlooked it, but I'd love to see a video focusing on note-taking and logging sessions: your methods, other methods, GM perspective vs. PC perspective in notes when solo gaming, and what you do (or what may be done) with story/game logs when they're complete. This is the aspect of solo gaming I struggle with the most, and I'd love to see an "under the hood" look at your methods and philosophies regarding session notes.

Welcome to the channel & I hope you find lots to enjoy here. Alas you won’t find what you are asking for in this comment, though… my note taking/logs are haphazard and uninteresting, I’m afraid, and a vid on them would be {yawn} not good!

I would like to see more info about the overland combat system. The way it’s described sounded interesting, but how does it play? I’m still waiting for my copy, but I remember hearing or reading somewhere that the Ancient Lands were the hexes towards the bottom of the map, designed to be a higher level area.

You are correct in that I don't often do multiple vids on a single game and also that I like this one quite a bit. As I play through the party that I have set up in this vid, if I find myself with something to say about the game that others haven't already said, you can certainly expect yet another vid on it. There is a lot to explore and like!

Thank-you for this video. I am intrigued by this game. The amount of content is incredible. Your take on making this game your own sounds exciting. I have a question though. With your party developed and their goals established are you able to fulfill these goals under your own direction or is there limitations to what you can do because of what the game offers? I hope you understand my question. I would like to see more videos about the gameplay.
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video. You are asking a great question - the answer is that depending on what you want to do you may need to bring your own structure to it. For example, if I were to have my party interact with mercenarys as NPC’s, the mechanisms for having those conversations and what they would be talking about would be something I would need to add on to the game. But if, for example, I want my party to travel to the home of the thief in order to fulfill the personal quest of the thief, I would be able to use the built-in traveling rules to handle that. Now of course I might decide that amongst my party there would be some discussion about who would get paid for doing that, etc. That would then fall to me outside of the game rules to implement. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for posting this as I am interested in this game and as always your insight is invaluable to me. And in that , if you had to only pick one game would you choose D100 with the world builder over this ? For replay ability wise or other options? Just trying to get a sense of which would give me a fuller more robust experience overall
@GeekGamers01
@GeekGamers01 Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on what you are looking for/what is most comfortable for your gaming. d100 takes almost no table space at all--just a few thin books and a sheet or sheets of paper... LoD takes up a ton of table space plus the massive box (mine weighed over 26 pounds!) plus all the sheets of paper and rules books and reference guides and cards, etc. LoD gives a fuller experience of characters inhabiting a world than d100 does (even using the d100 worldbuilder--which I do recommend). But LoD also requires running 4 characters (or a main character and 4 mercenaries or hirelings). d100 is a solitary character. So that is a huge difference in terms of what you might want to manage. Character progression in d100 has always felt a bit slow to me--it's my biggest negative about the game--and here it may feel a bit faster... but I'm not sure yet on that point. If you prefer cards and bits and standees and coins and maps and multiple characters and tons of stuff, LoD is for you. If you prefer to keep things tighter with one character, some paper, and a few books, d100 is the way to go.

@@Scubasgamecorner there is a free version of the D100 game. Old rules, but still, you get a good feel for it. I missed something more meaty when it comes to combat. Loved the hit allocation. LOD seems to have both positional combat and hit allocation.

This seems totally fantastic - I've kept my eyes peeled for League of Dungeoneers and Lasting Tales, as they seem to be in the final steps of the Kickstarter thingy. My friend and I start to run out of options when playing HeroQuest and WarHammerQuest. He is a super big fan of Percentile Skills (or any Percentile stuff for that matter). LoD seems complete, sturdy, and deep. I'm interested to see how this game unfolds. Is their Kickstarter done and complete yet ?

@ConraDargo
@ConraDargo Жыл бұрын
@@azuretigers5562 There’s a lot to be ported, as you can see, but since most of the game is actually the rules themselves - as that’s how it all started with the PnP, I guess that as long as someone had the rules, you’d be able to play it through digital means (even using another game’s tile set and creatures/minis/standees). Though the thing is that the rules aren’t available atm, you had to back the KS in order to get even a PDF - it won’t be made available for free. So you might have to wait for the reprint in order to get your hands on the rules, be it a PDF or a physical copy!

I can tell you that it's looking VERY promising and likely that a reprint will happen, having seen how many ppl are asking this question and have been doing so for like the past 2-3 weeks! Also, a bunch of retailers backed the KS at the Retail pledge levels, so there should be a limited amount of copies available throughout the world! Just gotta ask around at local stores and keep an eye out for it in general :)

@@billcedarheath387 Oh wow, that's really sad, sorry to hear that :'C Hopefully something online then if nothing else! For example I saw a comment on The Dungeon Dive's video, where someone in Canada had found out about a store close to them that got in on the retail pledge! I know that Alphaspel here in Sweden also pledged for Retail level, and that they do international shipping, but I'm not sure if they'll actually ship something of this size to anywhere but within Sweden >__> (it would probably cost a fortune anyways, so I think it would be best for you to keep scanning the Internet - maybe see what pops up on the BoardGameGeek forum for example)

This, sadly, is the state of game publishing these days. I feel like most people get in on reprints because they don’t know about a game until it is already sold out due to small Kickstarter runs, etc.

Great question. You could say it is Descent on steroids. Each aspect of this game is more detailed & involved but yes actually that is a great touchstone for this game & I’m sorry I didn’t think of that myself! A comparison-you can get a Descent quest up and running with 4 characters in probably 10-15 minutes if you know the game; getting the same thing from scratch here will take 40 minutes at least (and that’s if you know the game and make your characters fast). It took me much longer than that to make my party as I hadn’t played this in a while
