Why am I linking to League of Legends, Reto pls.
League of Legends is a video game about some little dudes attacking smaller dudes and enemy dudes until you eventually attack buildings. This is that game but they made a game that is inspired by Vampire Survivors. Yes the genre in general, but the Vampire Survivors inspiration in specific is extremely clear.
The Let's Try series is a way to preview / review games in order to get my first impressions through the first moments of gameplay.

After a few hours of it: Yeah it's pretty clear that the goal of minute 14-15 isn't to kill enemies, it's to survive till the boss spawns lol. I actually appreciate that, it makes tankiness more important immediately into the damage check.

The hitbox seems too big even for the circle. Also, apparently this'll only be available until 19 August, but Riot might bring it back or make it permanent if it's well-received.

@@Retromation The Riot special in this regard is. -Make a temporary gamemode, riddled with bugs and imbalance. -People tend to be extremely excited by it and play it a lot. -People tend to burn out because of the bugs, imbalance and not bugfix or balance patch to look forward to. -It gets played less Riot: Guess, it's not popular then *shrug*. They always actively sabotage the popularity of their gamemodes and then act like the gamemodes fail conceptually. The literal exact same thing happened with 3v3 and dominion and it's kinda happening with Arena as well

In development forever then released 1v1 on howling abyss and immediately scrapped it completely because players weren't spending enough of their total league time in a 1v1s compared to normal matches. Ignored that matches were 1-2mins instead of 20-40 so no shit people spent "less time" and ignored that people were probably just waiting for the "real one". The way they understand information is so annoying. Also balance oml, champ gets buffed and winrate goes up 2% and they say it was a success.. but champs playerbase went from only 1tricks who are amazing at them maintaining a 50% winrate to a bunch of people first timing them maintaining 50% wr while the onetricks are now at 65%+ wr.. idk how they never see an issue with "playerbase up 500% winrate barely moved" as if the winrate shouldn't go down with so many new people trying someone.. "general playerbase now has the same winrate 7 obsessed onetricks used to have what a good patch. btw those 7 onetricks havent lost a game in weeks"

For if you play this again; you can press Tab to show your stats, as well as the passive stat required to evolve each weapon. If you want to stand a chance in later maps without grinding through meta too much, you'll probably need multiple evolved weapons, so passive slots are very valuable. Unfortunately it still shows passives and weapons you haven't unlocked yet.

i think the wierd movement is happening because of a setting called movement prediction. It is for people with bad internet i think and it also does some funky stuf in normal game too

I had no idea that you originally started as a League of Legends channel, and I find that intriguing! I know very little about the game, so I value your opinion and review of the various characters and this game mode. It's nice to hear a comparison of what you know versus what changed.

@@Retromationfor Jinx specifically it’s really useful because it basically turns into dual stick controls. More consistent aiming and helps when trying to focus down elites. I will admit however tht I basically never use it for the others

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts about it at the end. That movement seems quite muddy but hopefully that's an accesibility setting that can be turned off, as someone else mentioned.

not sure if that is also the case for the anima squad movement, but under options, in-game is gameplay category and under that is "movement prediction". especially in PBE Server, where you are on, higher ping is typical and that is supposed to help. i think that might be the reason micromovement feels janky

I think the movement might be grid based. That would explain why tapping would only make you wobble a bit. If you don't give enough input to move to the next coordinate it snaps back to the previous coordinate. Guess the solution would be to have a smaller grid size making the movement smoother.

I would highly suggest Legends of runeterra (tcg) as well as Ruined King (turn based role play), Mageseeker (action role play), and Song of Nunu(single player story adventure). They are all Riot/lol based games, not gamemodes.

I’ve been enjoying the mode a lot, but there are some issues tht need to be ironed out. The hotbox is indeed enormous and could probably shrink to the size of the aim circle. I wish that there was a way to look at items or at least champion abilities before you hop in match, having to read them quickly while upgrading is awkward. Lastly the bugs, many bugs. Tho it is PBE so I guess it’s to be expected.

Purely speculation here, but I think the hitboxes being that uniform circle is their attempt to make every character have the same hitbox, given that league has characters that are huge and others that are tiny.

Entirely fair assumption, however, reduce the size on all of them lol. In a game like this it is fine if a hitbox is smaller than a character, it is not okay if a hitbox is bigger than a character. Most games in this genre have hitboxes _smaller than the characters model,_ so this feels off by comparison. Not to mention, if the characters have different hitboxes who cares, this isn't base league, the AI isn't going to whine about it lol.

No whining? Then what is the point of league? Jokes aside, that hitbox is ridic. In all other games of the genre I get surprised at how small the hit boxes are when I barely get though a bunch of enemies.

In typical LoL, ability haste is essentially the cooldown of your skills (E, R, etc.) so this is probably the same here. It's too bad none of my favorite champions are in this mode. I probably won't try it.

Seriously? Ignoring the fact that hundreds (at least) of games already achieve this, base league of legends is smoother than this, AND indie games made by teams of one or two can handle making smooth movement in an online co-op game. The amount of people that are willing to accept less from a billion dollar company is wild to me.

@@Retromation Honestly quite liked it. It's on the simpler side (though I feel like most action programming games are), but was really enjoyable. Played the 10 scenarios 2-player, then select scenarios 4-player, and felt both worked really well. Honestly worth a second-hand pickup just to play the campaign/scenarios.

its really nice that they are making pve gamemodes and this one is fun but they didn't really pick the best genre, this genre is a niche pretty much, if we go back to the star guardian event that one is completely different from this and it was so cool because it was the core elements of league like clicking to move and using your abilities, rather than moving with awsd and the computer shots and uses abilities for you. Like this is boring to play I am sorry to say it but its just how it is, it will be received really well at first because that's what we all wanted but when people realize that its actually boring the gamemode its going to die. and honestly I don't want to be that guy but I would also not be surprised if they made it this way on purpose so that they have an excuse in the future to say "we try to make a gamemode but like every other time you guys didn't receive well so its just a waste of money and time we are never making anything again"

Bro's going the "poke clone" route I see.... Not a good mindset Even funnier considering you think DRG survivor is THE survivor game. It's good, but i suggest you do some research on bullet heavens/survivorlikes. Ill give you 2 titles to start: "Magic Survival" and "Vampire Survivors" Have fun.

If you want to play this, be carefull about the Vanguard system. It has a about 1% chance to brick your system.

There was a minor issue not to long ago where people who pushed Windows 11 to a pc not meant for Windows 11 had to change a setting in their bios.. it didn't "brick" their system.
