Leah’s Story is about one family’s experience with La Crosse encephalitis. When Leah was just 4 years old she was bitten by a mosquito infected with La Crosse virus. Just five days after she complained of a headache, she died in her family’s arms. La Crosse encephalitis is rare but deadly. It occurs most often in children younger than 16 years old. You can help prevent la Crosse encephalitis by using EPA-registered insect repellent and removing standing water near your home where mosquitoes lay eggs. More information at www.cdc.gov/lac
