My former CEO insisted that we "trust the science." Every week (he bought our old company) he would get up there and spout his rhetoric at us. He would shame people for having questions, having concerns. He would shame people for not wearing masks, or getting vaccinated, or not vaccinated enough, or not liking the weekly tests (or thinking they were stupid and not accurate given that at the end they were take-home tests). And yet all the stuff he spouted was incorrect. All of it. The mask efficacy, the vaccine efficacy, the danger of the disease, who it affects, how it affects them. We worked in an environment (a shop) where all of us were at least 8 feet apart all day long. Often more than that. We all wore respirators as a general rule anyway (carbon fiber dust was in the air), and we all socially isolated during breaks. But none of it was enough for this yahoo. We all had to do as he said, not as the science dictated. As I've said before, it's about ego and control. Nothing else.

Working at the office instead of at home isn't a life risking thing anymore than going to the grocery store or a restaurant is. Working from home is safer. The duration of potential contact with someone that has COVID and contracting it is far less doing groceries than at work. I am not at the supermarket for 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week. For everyone to have this exposer (grocery, laundry, etc.) and be forced to sit in a closed office for 8+ hours/day is definitely going increase the chances of spreading the virus if someone did get it…. Just saying - the justification is still there.
@HH-le1vi
@HH-le1vi 3 жыл бұрын
@@realJohnJohn not really. You take the same 3500lb hunk of rapidly moving steel to run errands and transport people as you do to the office. Where you go doesn't matter for risk unless you're going to a hospital. There's more people at restaurants and grocery stores on a per square foot basis than there will ever be at the office.
@Angel-vd2hr
@Angel-vd2hr 3 жыл бұрын
@@ethanswimmer1287 I am a genius, thank you. My point isn’t that the amount of people that you are exposed to is smaller in those public areas. It’s how long you actually stay in those areas. You are not going to go to the grocery store every day. So your point of contact is limited to that instance. If you go to the office, you are continually forcing a point of contact every day - which increases your chances of getting the virus. Meaning that if you did end up contracting the virus, you are exposing more people to the virus due to the additional point of contact. This includes forcing people to return to office locations when it’s not necessary. Again, the concern is valid. Edit: also it’s meet - not meat…. Genius

In my country, you are required to present a medical certificate ONLY AFTER you've been hired! The reason for that being is so that the employee can't falsely sue the employer for incurring any disabilities or medical conditions because of the work environment and the opposite - so that the employee can prove that they did not have any of the underling medical conditions they are suing the company for being responsible before starting to work for them! Basically, it's in place in order to protect both the employee and the employer, and it's required by law to be presented right after you've signed the contract, but not before!

If there's no need to be in an office, and you've been remote the past year and a half, then quit any job requiring you be in the office. We've seen that remote work works. So many people prefer that. Find a remote job. Many places are these days. Your other options are to organize your co workers together and refuse to work in the office. The executives cannot afford to cut everyone off. If you're really dedicated, organize so that if the boss fires any worker for working from home, you all quit. The other option is to start your own business. Find something you enjoy and build a business that fits with your schedule. Those don't all guarantee results, and building a business doesn't mean necessarily fewer hours. People have been rethinking the way they work. I think if some executives think they're special because they run a company, and you guys hate it there. Leave for something that is more fulfilling. Tons of people are doing it these days (called the Great Resignation). People are tired of these executives. These are people that all enjoy working and work hard without wanting to be babysat and follow stupid rules that so many managers don't actually understand

The reason most companies are doing this is a matter of exploit, cost cut, and profits. Think of it this way, if I can make it so that work from home makes it so that I am allowed to cut your wages, that's so dam good. In fact, that's what my company did to us. Because we were forced to work from home, and all the sudden low job availability, my company cut everyone's salary because we aren't being productive. Why? Because they can. We were still as productive as we've always have been. In fact, even more so now.

Big fan of the channel man. It’s nice to see there’s someone close in age that has the same opinions and outlooks on the things you’ve talked about. I own an ice cream truck business, I’ve been running it for about 2 years now and you’d be amazed at how many companies have reached out to me to do “employee appreciation events” at their major corporations. These aren’t just mom and pop shops or little businesses. I’m talking absolutely massive companies that will have me come out and serve their employees. They won’t hesitate to pay whatever the total comes out to. There’s been times I’ve calculated the numbers and think there’s no way they’d pay what I’m charging but they don’t care because it’s way less than actually giving everyone a raise or pto vacation. I obviously don’t turn down the business but it feels ridiculous going to these companies with a bunch of grown ass adults. It’s nice being on the other side man. No lie. One thing I do, is make a mental note of what companies are having me come out and do this so if I ever end up needing a job in the future I can avoid these businesses like the plague.

Had to watch a training video about corporate expensing various things. The video shows an example of 2 people going to a restaurant after a "very successful business meeting with clients". The two employees discuss which restaurant to choose from a list, employee A suggests the 4 star restaurant $$$$, employee B suggests the 3 star restaurant $$$ and even says because it's a more reasonable price. The video then quizzes me and asks which of them made the right choice. I choose B because obviously the company is cheap. I was wrong. It was a trick question, instead, a third location on the restaurant list, a little snack shack with 2 stars and only 1 $ symbol was the "right" choice. So basically, after closing this multimillion dollar deal, go get yourself a gas station burrito and a 99 cent iced tea. Because fuck you that's why. It shocks me that anyone could be fool enough to feel a sense of loyalty to organizations like this.
