Part-Time Documentary

During the closing months of the 2014-15 season, Leamington were featured in a Documentary called 'Part-Time', which followed the Brakes as they prepared for a crucial league match. The filmed provided an insight into the lives of Non-League footballers and club volunteers.

really enjoyed watching this gives u a real insite on non league also how players live and play the game because of the passion for it and not because of the money and made me realise how in comparison its totally different to big money premier league.

Thank you for watching. It was important for Nick and Scott when making it that they portrayed the situation as honestly and fairly as they possibly could. Many clubs in non-league operate within a part-time schedule, with finances being limited for a fair amount of clubs. Many players continue to play at this level for their love of the game.

I am a true Manchester United supporter yet I will always have a place for Leamington as it is my home team, hoping soon to go and see a game. I have seen one before but I was very young a don't remember it.

Great documentary, followed Leamington for the last year after playing with them on football manager, up to the championship now ! Would I be welcome down at the new windmill ground to watch a game sometime ? :D

Great time to be involved at the club now too, being that we are back in the National League. We have a number of exciting fixtures ahead of us in the 2017-18 season, with the likes of Stockport, York, Salford and Kidderminster in our league. Feel free to come along!

Wow now that is some love for the club-Facilities director! all that work and what for? ...nothing just because he loves his club. Saying that id do it at Chelsea for free as id get a few perks there( Costas underpants,Willians boots etc). Dunno about Leamington though lol

Kevin is just one of many volunteers at Leamington who offer their time and effort purely for the love of their local club. Obviously a common thing in non-league anyway, but we fully appreciate our volunteers! Hope you can come along to a game one day Andi!

Is it normal only to practice twice a week in the sixth-tier, like you do?

For most part-time clubs, training twice a week is the norm, yes. Some clubs may have different schedules, some players may even opt to train an extra day at other clubs to improve fitness.

If a really low league club gets promoted to league 2 for the first time does it turn to a full time club?

Yes. Even if a team gets promoted into the National League (top tier of Non-League), they would consider going full-time from there really.

It’s a rule that teams have to be full time in league 2 aswell.

Hi James! Many thanks for watching. Yes, since the documentary was filmed, we have reached two playoff finals, one loss and one win! We are currently back in the National League North and doing just fine! We've had a couple have players who have since left us and now are full-time professionals. Danny Newton, featured in this documentary, now plays in the Football League. Non-league is a special part of the game for sure. Passion in abundance!

The FA is the football association. They are in charge of what goes on in fotoball in England. league football is the 4 professional leagues in England ( epl,championship,league 1,league 2) and then you have the conference which is the 5th/6th and 7th divisions. a couple of teams in the conference are professional but most of them are semi-pro meaning that they get paid a bit but they still have to have 2nd jobs. Non-league is after that, so the teams are semi-pro but definitely don't get enough to make a living out of it and then after all that you have sunday league which is just people playing for fun

Yes, you do make some money in non-league. The majority of clubs are semi-pro/part-time, so more than likely will not be paying players enough for them to earn a living from it. Most have other jobs too. Can vary for different clubs and players though, situations can differ.

Adam has it mostly correct. Most of the teams in the National League, the top level of Non-League, are full-time clubs, with a few of the teams in that league being part-time (usually teams who have been promoted to that level). From Step 2 and below, the majority are part-time/semi-pro clubs, with the odd few clubs being exceptions. Generally speaking, the players at this level do earn money from football but do have another job alongside the football, so they probably wouldn't be able to make a living out of it.

Differs for different clubs. Players and coaching staff are paid, some club staff may be paid but many are volunteers so some may be unpaid. Passion for football is a guarantee though.

This needs a narrator. But yeah, I LOVE these insider documentaries of a football club. Favourite has to be "The Impossible Job" England and Graham Taylor. They was even a film mocking it Mike Bassett: England Manager. The stick Graham got was disgusting IMO. The press were smarmy little fuckers in the press conferences. That documentary made me really like the guy. You could see his players were fucking thick idiots (like seriously low IQ bellends) who did exactly what he told them not to all the time. Big Ron Manager is another one. Car crash of a club Peterborough with Bary Fry chairman. The manager was an absolute prick, who didn't wanna listen to Ron at all. Again, I really love Ron. Shame about the racist comment, you can tell he's not a racist guy at all. Really good bloke IMO. Apparently when he was a manager he was hilarious (not on purpose if you know what I mean, he did crazy things, but he was serious lol), Dean Saunders tells some really funny stories of him lol One time in the dressing room he said to the player something like"Oh you think you're all that do you? These boys are the real deal!" Then opened the dressing room door and Take That walk in, to gee them up for the game lol and the players are just like wtf? lmao There's another Peterborough one from 1997 again Bary Fry back when he was manager. Another good was is the Leyton Orient one where the manager offers half the team out for a fight lol Anyone else know any others?
