Appreciate all the graphics Paul! I think the take away lesson here is to regularly clean your bracelet to prevent gunk buildup over time, and do your due diligence when buying a preowned watch. Looking forward to Summer Fair. Cheers mate!

Cheers Paul, I have a vintage 1601, it’s 60 years old and has some stretch, I was thinking about having it repaired, however watching your vid has reassured me it still has a while to go before the need for repair, thank you , really informative post. Really enjoy the channel mate.

Excellent topic Paul and great information for all of us watching your channel . It would be great to cover the best way to clean, wipe down and types of materials to store watches . I have heard that certain types of micro fiber cloth as well as open cell foam storage can cause micro scratches on clasps and cases on watches . I myself have found that certain types of cloth may have fibers that can cause very fine scratches as well as the open cell foam used to store watches . I would like to hear more about this topic in ways to keep our watches in great condition besides daily wear and use . Thanks again Paul .

Hi Paul, again a great video. I own a 16233 with Steel/ Yellow gold Jubilee bracelet. I believe this kind of bracelet experiences band stretch is because the the 3 centre links are 1) Gold and 2) its hollow, not solid. Thus over the years these Gold 'rings' tend to stretch and flatten out causing band stretch.
@colinallan1962

No. You're wearing it wrong. A Rolex bracelet should be worn with just a little give in it. Not tight like say a Breitling. That is why you will see Rolex owners doing the famous Rolex shake from time time. Just shifting it slightly. It is the first thing a dealer should tell you.

Hi Paul, thank you for the video! Quick question; I've seen guys in stores grading band stretch, saying "ah this is about a 6 or 7". Would a perfect 10 look like your Deepsea and "past the point of no return" be a 1?

Hi Paul - appreciate the video and explanation. I have a jubilee bracelet that is much stretched - mine is about 10-11 years old and I was wondering if that is allowed / expected…? I believe for a watch that young, I would not have expected it..

Does band stretch in a jubilee bracelet mean that it’s going to break and so needs to be replaced, or is it just an appearance and resale value issue?

Solution: either buy an aftermarket bracelet or (ideally) buy a newer 6 digit model with newer bracelet. Think: easylink or glidelock. If you do go old school get one with solid end links at the very least. Personally I wouldn't touch anything without the engraved rehault either but I'm very fussy about these things

Funny thing is, when 18kt gold is in contact with stainless steel, it's the steel that wears away fastest, even though the gold is a softer metal. Go figure!
@colinallan1962
@colinallan1962 2 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with Paul. The main problem with ( particularly the jubilee ) is that people wear them too tightly - think about it for a minute - and this stretches the links. I have had Rolexes for over 50 years and I have never heard of anyone saying the stretch was caused by the weight of the watch. The bracelet should be worn so that it is comfortable but not tight and you can normally recognize a Rolex wearer by the famous Rolex wrist shake which Rolex owners will recognize as the automatic response you have to keep it comfortable with no strain on links.😀
@PaulThorpeOfficial
@PaulThorpeOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
You're entitled to your opinion Colin and I respect that. But I can assure you, stretch is caused by weight stress, not by wrist tension. Wearing a watch snug helps prevent stretch. Cheers. All the best.

I noticed a lot of people called the bracelet crap, I disagree with that, they las a long time if you take care of them,my observation is a lot of people were them loosely,and the watch head if heavy compared to the bracelet, Rolex know what they are doing,those hollow bracelets have been produced for many years they are quality,and to one of the comments below don't be ashamed that you only have two Rolex watches 🙄GOD

Just watched your video for exactly this reason. Yep it looks like my poor bracelet has had it. But I want a like for like replacement. It was brought in 1993. Model n4 13055. Will Rolex adhere to my request or want to put a newer bracelet on it. If they did this are they not reducing the value?

Just had my GMT Master Pepsi Rolex with oyster bracelet serviced, they told me in detail step by step what the service required,for a 40 year old vintage Pepsi Rolex, the watchmaster did a fantastic job , on the watch itself ? Now saying that, getting to the bracelet was a different story, keep in mind ,this is an international Rolex dealer that sells and repairs Rolex watches. Their advice to me , was that they will repair some of the pins in the watch if needed ,but in most cases it's better to replace the bracelet on a vintage timepiece that you plan on wearing. Moral of the story for the sake of not losing a timepiece you've had for 40 years...??
