So 5 minutes ago I was watching some dudes doing achery and I was like "So cool! I really wish I could do that, but I don't even know how I could get started". And then I'm watching this, and first thing this dude says is "the most common question I get asked is 'how do I get started?' " Holy shit, totally feels like he just read my mind! Or maybe I'm just a really regular person.

Hello Jake and Blake, and great vid. I took archery in middle school, golly was that a long time ago XD. Anyway, I am here to re-learn the basics and get shooting again, I love the ancientness and elegance of a bow. I live in Wyo and am in the hills as much as possible great to be involved in something that is sports, outdoors, requires skill and revamped ancient equipment. I bought a second-hand old longbow today from the thrift shop, and gonna tool around with it, it is great to know and have learned the basics from you though, thanks again and good shootin!

This is by far the most educational, straight forward video on archery. Thank you so much. I just got my Mongolian bow and am doing mounted archery. Now I know why my aim was off and how to fix it. I got a burnt left thumb (I use right side) and am wondering is this normal, or what should I do differently to avoid it. Have yet to had issue with string. (knock on wood) Thanks once again for the video!

This is a great video. I have been shooting a bow(not a compound) for fifty years now and I do believe that whether you're engaged in Target, Field or Hunting Archery, that Archery is not a particularly hard sport to learn if you have the proper equipment and instruction. Without the proper equipment and instruction, you will not get progress, you will get problems.

I like the technique of figuring out your bow. As someone who is left handed, I actually do most sports the right handed way some reason. This makes it much easier rather then having to explain when being told to use whatever your dominant hand is

Excellent video. I got my first bow in 1976. I probably have at least 50 of them now. I couldn't imagine shooting with the arrow above my index finger, though. I wonder why he recommends it. Also, a glove is better than a tab for new archers-less to think about. It is a "life time sport". Great video. Thanks for posting and encouraging more kids.

Great video! I started archery with a 22lbs recurve, but i've never shoot with my fingers placed underneath the knocking point. (i'm okay with the normal way) Now that i'm sort of mentoring the newbies, i find it easier for them to do this way too, by placing their fingers underneath the point.

right because think it through logically. What happens when you tense up your muscles holding it. Your hand vibrates and shakes even ever so slightly. So that vibrating of your hand because you are tensed up shakes the bow just enough to offset your aim and redirect the arrow where you don't want it to go. edit: although this is a 6 year old comment lmao so im sure you are a boss by now but i'm new to this video at least.

Got a little question. I'm into archery but I always wonder a thing about follow through. Is it so important Just for target archery? I'm a "hunter & field" archer so I far away from using kilometric stabilyzers and what I'm used to see from me and other archers is that the bow stays still after the shot in order not to cause any bad affections; it doesn't fall at all and it's not that easy to make it fall without a stabilyzer. Same thing I see from compound field shooters. So what's the right point?
