Do you love to learn English while you watch movies? Me too! I think it’s fun and powerful to learn languages through fiction. In this English lesson I’ll use my Ben Franklin method to teach you some of the nuances of spoken English. If you’ve been using movies to learn English you know that the great power of this method is learning conversational English. My students from across the world have taken their book knowledge of English and greatly expanded it by using my fun English tutorials to hone their English speaking skills. Since conversation is likely your goal you need to practice intentionally on your English conversation methods. This video will help you do just that! You can go back over the lesson as many times as you need to-practice makes perfect! You’ll get to see diagrams and technical information on all of the spoken English from this great Captain Marvel scene! If you’re working to improve your spoken American English you’re in the right spot. My entire channel is here to help you! Learning English is incredibly rewarding and this summer’s movie series makes it fun and fast. Let’s go to the movies together!
I ALMOST FORGOT! Now you can download a free audio lesson to go with this video: rachelsenglish.com/summer-blo...

It's important to notice that the part "There's drugs, there's violence, there's swearing" has an upward intonation. When you list things in English such as drugs, violence and swearing, your intonation goes up at the end. This is true in many other languages, too like in Spanish, but not in Finnish, so it's important to pay attention to what intonation English and the languages you're learning use when listing things.

My theory about why we say “there’s” even when there’s a plural noun is two fold: 1) it’s easier. The double r sound in “there are” is kind of hard and awkward to say. 2) parallel language. He listed three things there are in the trailer, and the other two mentioned use “there’s.” The sentence flows better and sounds better when the repetition of the the same word. “There’s drugs, there’s violence, there’s swearing.” It wouldn’t sound as good if you said “there’re drugs, there’s violence, there’s swearing.”
