Your tutorials are excellent!! As you said, it would cost a fortune to go through all this with a private coach, so I'm so grateful to be able to get high quality instruction online. Thank you so much!

So do you think a turns course would be beneficial for you?

This is perfect for adult skaters. Especially the individual exercises to build up to it. Its a lot harder for us to process so much information and a coach demonstrating the entire move and then saying give that a go never ends well for us. We need baby steps for our overthinking precautious brains and bodies.

That’s entirely the concept 👍🏼 you have to get a feel for these turns before you try to get deep edges, start very shallow and build it up 👍🏼 it works

It is a hard turn for me to do. But when You explain it and show it the way You did here, I am willing to risk it. 😊

Be careful! But yes my system of starting with a very shallow curve can give you the right feeling without vomiting to a deep edge, that part can come later… confidence first!

Many thanks for this detailed instruction! I particularly like the pauses to show the correct positions of the arms, blades, and whatnot. Super helpful!

I really like your ice skating videos. Other than what you've developed and developing, I'd also like to see advice on off-ice practice (both for skating basics and more targeted for specific elements) and how to allocate time for that vs. on-ice training. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos and courses!

I really love the idea of this course and the breaking down of arm movements is great. It would be even better if you could incorporate off ice muscle memory exercises that could be done for each pause point as well if this exists. Your tutorials are always fab and looking forward to this one becoming available

Just got back from the ice rink. I'm very glad that I finally got a hold of the inside rocker turn, frequently getting a 3 or 4 minus 1 or 2. A few things really helped me: 1. free foot tug behind, toe to heel; 2. body rotates before the turn; 3. starts with shallow edge. Thank you so much! @@iskatecoach

@SuperHubian ahh awesome thanks for the update! Keep building that edge towards half circles, you’ll get there! Shoulders rotate, then they should stop for a moment before you turn your foot 👍🏼

Would you be able to demonstrate common mistakes, and the mistakes on the sheet too? A what not to do demonstration of the common pitfalls and traps people might get into the habit of doing from what you've seen over the years.

@@iskatecoach Definitely am interested in the course. There's not too much content detailing the turns and steps, only a handful of patreon and youtube videos about them, so I would love it! Choctaws as well especially.

@coldnesss yes I think olegs videos are the best for turns, I’d like to bring this progressive setup for skaters new to them so they can be built up slowly 👍🏼

I didn't know there are 50 turns in skating! I thought there are 3 turns, brackets, choctaws, mohawks, counter, rocker, and twizzle
@iskatecoach
@iskatecoach 4 ай бұрын
If you take each foot, edge and direction you have 8 types of rocker, 8 counters, 8 brackets, 8 double twizzles, 8 loops (singles only), 4 outside Mohawks (dance only) and 6 Choctaws! (Some edge entries are not counted in the ISU judging system) but they are still possible so technically there’s more!!! And that’s only the difficult turns, not including normal 3 turns and Mohawks!

This is great and makes me want to buy the whole course. Any idea when it’ll be ready? Also probably intentional but in case it’s not, it looks like when talking about arm position (around 7:45ish), you show a forward outside rocker rather than an inside one. But from my understanding in terms of upper body position the arm guidance will be mostly the same for inside and outside here. Perhaps more twist required when doing a FO rocker than a FI rocker simply because with a FI you naturally face the first circle a bit more?
@iskatecoach

Thanks for this comment 😀 the course was about half finished as there are 50 turns it’s a LOT of editing. I also have PDFs and bits and bobs so I’m about half way through I can’t say when it will be finished but from this video the response has been very positive so I will make more time to move this forwards. Trying to figure out what is most useful for most people learning online is tricky, I think things like this though have some real value for all skater whether you use online things or not. Yes the rocker demo for arms is actually from a video called “further rocker help” which is a general help for all 8 rockers 👍🏼

@chiutwan

@iskatecoach When I attempt a bracket, I often make it almost like a rocker - the exit edge doesn’t sustain, quickly changing edge. I see it on your rocker worksheet, so I suppose it’s not uncommon. Will you address it in your course?
@iskatecoach
@iskatecoach 3 ай бұрын
@chiutwan yes the course covers all 8 brackets and 8 rockers, and the other 34 difficulty turns! 😅
