Except that space marines being male only is itself a retcon. In the early days of 40k, there were female space marine miniatures. Apparently they sold so poorly that they were written out of the lore later.

Realistically, a female space marine would probably look like a man anyway. Think what female body builders look like, and multiply that to ridiculous levels. Space Marines are so different to normal humans that the starting point of any human would probably give the same result.

I think of the Space Wolves as what you get when you artificially keep an old warrior culture alive, long past its extinction. Like they, as with many other marines, are putting on a bastardized farce of a life that would have died out long ago. The most important lore is the game you and your mates play. Not what some blokes online think you need. In my game it's important to know shipping statistics, because that's what we do as imperial traders. Or the arrest procedures as enforcers, that was really fun.

Yes They can take off the armor, which official w40k videos but also the codex have shown. however most space marines really dont have time to be able to relax.

I don't think they are permanently molded on. You could roll a chaos mutation where that happens, and either a weapon or your armour becomes some unholy symbiotic thing. Or you could roll a mutation where you walk like John Cleese. Dreadnoughts are walking coffins of eternal terror where some sod is permanently hooked into a life support system. They are unable to get out.

Grab what you think is fun from martial cultures in myth and history. In general, Marines have leeway to carry on some proper nonsense.

Good match up but I think the Astartes would have it in the bag 1. his visors could detect the pred whilst he’s got his cloak activated 2. Astartes are super human quick, strong and resilient 3. Dunno, sometimes the sergeant is a neophyte being groomed for squad command. Sometimes they have full marines embedded as instructors. On the table I think they count as neophytes with the normal higher Ld for being sergeant.

I like that scale. Marines are as tough as orks, as skilled as eldar and carry heavy weaponry. Their advantage wasn't that they excelled, but that they were good at everything and had no drawback. All basic infantry models got 1 Wound. I think multiple Wounds was reserved for characters and monstrous infantry.
