Hi Bunny, thanks so much for your comment. Learning Excel is important and great, but it is also nice to see what is possible in Excel. As you learn more, you will become confident to build these applications. Soon you can build them on your own and sell them to people around the world for automated income. Please remember even if you do not need a budget book, millions of people in the world do need it. If you are the one to build it for them, you can make a LOT of money. I hope this helps and continue investing in yourself.

Hi and thanks so much. I programmed so many years without knowing applicaiton.caller as well. I wish I had learned it earlier as well. Could have saved me a lot of time and code. I will try to use it more often as well (I still need to redo my shape-based date picker with Application.caller as well) Thanks again.

Really wonderful sir... Learnt a lot... Made one myself following yours.... We can add two more lines to the Sub ShowHideYearSelection(): If Sheet1.Shapes("YearsGrp").Visible = True Then Sheet1.Shapes("YearsGrp").Visible = msoFalse Sheet1.Shapes("scrollYearButton").Rotation = 225 Else Sheet1.Shapes("YearsGrp").Visible = msoCTrue Sheet1.Shapes("scrollYearButton").Rotation = 45 End If 'scrollYearButton is the name of the control to which the macro is being assigned. The above modification gives a more interesting dynamic look to the excel sheet in which the scroll down buttons change shape according to visibility of the list of years NB: I used a Chevron shape instead of Half Frame. To get the same effect for Chevron, the angles of rotation will be 90 and 270 degrees respectively for corresponding 225 and 45 degrees of Half Frame.
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for your comment and ideas. This is a great addition for sure. What would be cool, if it is fast enough, would be to loop through different degrees of the Chevron rotation as it moves positions. Very nice idea and thanks.

Your Videos are amazing. Thanks for sharing such a knowledge. Do you usually lock cells and protect sheets on your applications to avoid the user messing around with the organization? I usually do this, but It causes me a lot of problems when I have to perform multiple tasks and always have to keep protecting and unprotecting it.
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I do appreciate that. For applications that I create and sell I always lock the cells and worksheets however not for the training applications. Please look into xlUserInerfaceOnly, when you use this type of protection it allows VBA to make changes and filters to Excel, but not the user. This avoids having to protect and unprotect sheets. I hope this helps. Should you have any additional questions, please join our Excel For Freelancers Facebook Group in which we have thousands of Excel experts who can guide and help you with your Excel Questions. Hi Randy. I'm a newbie and have zero knowledge of VBA, but I was able to follow you and created everything you did! I even managed to solve the problems when my VBA codes had errors (due to operator error lol) I do have one question: I have different budget amounts each month. How can I change the budget for each month? Right now every month shows the same budget number. Thank you so much!
@ExcelForFreelancers
@ExcelForFreelancers 2 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks so much for your comment. I am so glad that you have been able to enjoy and learn from the training. If you have a dynamic budget that is different each month, what you can do is create two columns in the Admin screen. One column for the first day of the month, and the 2nd column for the budget. Then you can create named ranges for each, such as Budget_Date and Budget_Amount. You can then look up the budget amount, based on date in a formula such as =Index(Budget_Amount,Match(FirstDayOfMonth,Budget_Date,0),1) this will return the budget for the specified month. I hope this helps and thanks so much.

31:02 for the bar chart, the maximum value for x axis is 5000 instead of 3500 which is the january budget. From what I can conclude, the max is the sum of total expense and january budget. Well, it is not what I want. If you change the total expense to 3500, which equal to January budget, instead of having the green bar fully fill the bar, you will have 50 green, 50 grey

Hi Bnitir,t thanks very much for your comment and I am glad you enjoyed the training. You could hide individual months by running a loop through all of the months. Those months that do not have values, you could hide the corresponding shapes within the pop-up macro. I hope this helps and thanks.

This tutorial was really helpful! I got some ideas about making my own version of this. One small problem, on the LAST step, where i have to do the Macro for the MonthSelect(), I did everything how you said and coded, but if i select a month, the month value turns into "2020" and every value in the tables go NA. For every month. And the code is the exact same as yours. I have to manually go back and write January, so it resets back.

Thanks for the video, tons of useful info. Question? When you placed the bar graph labeled January Budget, I first thought it showed percent used with the grey reflecting the whole. But, I I think it stacks the Expenses and Budget on top of one another. Isn't what you are attempting to show is the how much of the budget has been used, which would be better visualized by stacking expenses and remaining?

Enjoyed this one very much... one change i think i will make... set MAX values for each Category. Then change the Color of the Category Icon. So i.e. January Food & Drink is now $162.. lets say you set a MAX of $150.. I want to change that icon to RED.. Maybe have them green by default. BONUS code - turn yellow when you approach your MAX limit??? I'm sure i need help with that VBA code, cause I'm not an expert at it (yet). I will definitely be playing with this for many future mods. This is an awesome start and a good base. Hope to hear lots of ideas from other users here too.

Hi Erik, thanks so much for your comment. Setting a category Max is a great idea. You can even go a step further and color an icon Green, Yellow or Red based on the level of spending. There is so much that can be done with this. I think its a nice start and would love to see what others come up with.

Great content! Trying to create/replicate/update this budget for my own needs. Tried to make the expenses into a organizable table with "Format as Table" for the headers "Date,category,amount". Problem is whenever I add an expense, it no longer updates until I click on date and "sort oldest to newest". All of the expenses are there, in chronological order regardless of the order of each entry, which I prefer. How do I get these transactions to update automatically?

Hi. Great training video. I like how you do everything step by step. Just a suggestion...In the video the month is set to January and when you run the form the month used is April. We don't actually see if the numbers update in the budget sheet for the month of April. Showing that the budget sheet actually updates when you run the form would help since it seems like some people are saying that the budget sheet is not updating for them.
