Hi, nice vid!. i got a sigma art 1.4 . i usually take portraits at 1.5 mts . the software came with the option to calibrate the focus at 4 distances . 30cm / 40cm / 70cm aprox / &infinity . my question is "how far should I put my camera from the subject to calibrate the last point or distance (infinity)? cause i feel that when u calibrate one distance , that influence the another distances a little bit, so i want to be more precise calibrating the distances arround de 1.5mts (0.7 and infinity)

We would just recommend taking a photograph outdoors and trying to focus on the farthest point (using central AF point). Calibrating this distance shouldn't influence any focus distances using the USB Dock.

Hi Jamila, infinity focus calibration is probably one of the more difficult focusing positions to calibrate. I would recommend picking a spot outdoors to focus on. Use a tripod and take like 5-10 photos using the central focusing point. Review them on the computer and see if all of them maintain similar sharpness.

Do you have front and back focusing issue with your lens and body combination in the first place though? This is only necessary when you do have that particular issue with the combination of your lens and your body, otherwise the dock is only for updating firmware and only worth it if you have multiple sigma lenses.

Hi Adam, i Have the sigma 60 to 600mm, basicaly i think im having fronfocusing problems, specially on ranges 400 to 600mm. I noticed that shotting wideopen (f6.5) with the lens gives the softest images, while stoppin down to F7 or f8 definitly i get sharper images (and the images looks more in focus)... Pardon my ignorance, if i have to adjust focusing at 600mm wide open, will it affect my focusing accuracy at 600mm shotting at F7 or F8 ?? or will it get even better the focus acuracy at those narrow apertures as soon as i fix the focus at f6.5?... My other question, i use the OVF, what settings are recomended in Camera> AF_s or AFC, indoors with artificial lighting or outdoors with overcast light? thanks in advance Alex
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Alex. That's a fair question. Lens focus calibration is always done at the maximum lens opening because that's where focus inaccuracies are going to be most noticeable. If you properly calibrate the AF at the 600mm position at F6.3 it should affect the performance when the lens is closed down. If you are photographing static subject matter indoors I would recommend using AF-S, but if the subject is moving change it to AF-C. There are also some people that always shoot in AF-C and use back button focus. This changes the shutter release to only release the shutter and the AF-on button to activate the focus. Thanks for watching!

@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, Robert Jackson. You don't "need" to perform the calibration but it is recommended to do so if you are noticing that the lens is either front or back focusing. If you have multiple cameras you would need to customize it for each DSLR camera as the two cameras can perform differently. This is typically a correction made to lenses when used on a DLSR to calibrate it to the AF sensor sitting behind the mirror. You wouldn't need to do this for the Z6 since you are focusing directly off the image sensor. Thanks for watching!

Do you need to calibrate even if you are using a mirrorless camera?
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, benjamín saravia ! The Sigma USB dock is compatible with Sigma Global Vision Lenses for the Nikon F and Canon EF mount DSLR lenses. This will not have to be done with a mirrorless camera because the camera features phase detect AF on the imaging sensor; whereas, the AF sensor is found underneath the mirror on a DSLR camera. You won't find the adjustment on mirrorless cameras but sony is the exception. the reason Sony offers that feature is because they allow you to mount their A-mount lenses using the LA-E4 adapter. This adapter features the same translucent mirror found in cameras like the Sony A99.

@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Eduardo, if you are using a focus calibration chart and the focus is spot on the zero mark there is no need to make any adjustments. You make calibration adjustments when the focus falls either behind or in front of the zero. When you are applying any changes to the lens, you have to make sure that you save the changes so that the software applies those changes to the lens. if you feel that the changes you've made were wrong, you can reset the settings to factory default. Also, make sure that you are not using Live View to calibrate the AF. Deactivate live view and focus using the cameras optical finder.
@timbowilderbeeste8709
@timbowilderbeeste8709 4 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit confused. Why do you keep adjusting the focusing distance manually on the lense when the whole point is about getting the autofocus to do it for you correctly? Manual adjustment should only come into it when you're focusing manually, in which case you're using your own eyes through the viewfinder to determine if the image is sharp or not.
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Timbo Wilderbeeste. I see what you mean, but I was rotating the focusing ring not to check the manual focus but to show the distance (in the focus scale window) at which the calibration should be performed. Once the camera was placed at the distance from the target I would take the photo using the AF through the viewfinder. Hopefully that clears it up. Thanks for watching!

Hello, Jaime Carreon. Sorry that you are having a difficult time calibrating the lens. Unfortunately, there are no preset settings since the calibration is camera specific. What I would recommend doing first is reseting the lens back to factory default and you perform this reset using the USB dock. I would also reset any in-camera micro-focus adjustment settings as well. Once everything is back to "O," I would recommend setting up your camera and tripod to take so test photos to see where your lens is either front or back focusing.

Hello, Marc Jensen. The Sigma Optimization Pro Software provides you with the four different focusing distances that it's capable of calibrating. If you are having a difficult time getting it exact, try manually setting the lens to .28 meters on the focus ring and use live view to guide you while you either move the camera or target until you see the point is in focus. Then turn off live view and switch the lens back to AF and focus on the same point. To measure the distance manually, you would need to measure from the focal plane marking of the camera to the target.

Dear Sir, currently I face an issue with my camera Canon EOS 6D Mark II and a prime lens Sigma 28mm f1.4 Art. The shot always provides with front focus while the main spot (behind) blurred. I have Sigma USB Dock with me but I do not have the focusing chart. Any option in correcting this issue? Your help is highly appreciated.

Hello Nopchann Nuon. If you have a ruler and a meterstick lying around, you can perform the micro-focus adjustment process. The ruler will is placed upright 90 degrees and the meter stick placed at a 45 degree angle. You focus on the ruler and use the meter stick to determine where the focus is falling. From there you can make your adjustments using the usb dock. I would recommend performing the test using a tripod and tripping the shutter with either a cable/wireless shutter relase.

how close do i put the camera to the focusing on the 0? you said "as accurately as possible" but doesn't tell me how close?
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, benjamin richley. You would focus on the target of the focus test chart. The 0 markings should fall in the same plane. As long as the target is perfectly perpendicular to the focal plane of the camera the zeros should be sharp after you perform the test. Thanks for watching!

How to Calibrate sigma 100-400mm lens can u plz make one video bro
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Hello ishor gurung. The steps for calibrating Sigma's 100-400 is similar to all of their new Global Vision lenses. I would recommend that you have a tripod for the test and a calibration chart. Also, make sure to turn off the stabilization when using a tripod as that could cause a slight blurring effect. I would also recommend that before you start to take several photos at each focal length and evaluate those images on a larger monitor. You may only need to make adjustments at either certain focus distances or zoom positions or you may not have to do anything at all. Thanks for watching.

Hello, Fred. It's not necessary, but it allows you to update the lens firmware and adjust some parameters that you wouldn't be able to without it. We currently offer the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 lens in a great bundle that includes the USB dock at no extra cost. Just a thought. Thanks for watching!

I have a pentax k3 and it seems I can't get the lens to focus the same way twice . It can be back focus one time and the next front focus not moving anything just taking different shots . It seems the lens can't mike its mind up where it wants to focus . For example the first shot can be dead on ,the 2nd front focus and the 3rd back focus or dead on one shot 2nd shot out to the 1 on front focus 3rd shot out to the 2 on front focus the 4th shot all the way to 3 back focus . Its all over the place and never the same place twice . Its impossible to calibrate the lens because its focusing different all the time . I have heard that something is going on with the pentax cameras and how it is communicating with the lens . Read this www.pentaxforums.com/articles/review-news/sigma-18-35mm-autofocus-a-second-look.html?src=all.

@bcgunner9324
@bcgunner9324 5 жыл бұрын
All lenses can require a microadjustment to it's focus... ALL lenses. Sometimes you get lucky and the tolerance is directly inline with your body, sometimes tolerance stacking can make a micro adjustment necessary. Its 100% luck-of-the-draw with both your particular camera body, and lens. Sending a lens back because you need to adjust it's focus is totally asinine.

Maybe it was my child screaming in my ear the entire time I tried to watch this but I don't quite understand. Are there specific settings that I can use for my sigma 50mm 1.4 art lens used on nikon d3500 or do I actually need to go through all of this?
@DigitalGojaUSA
@DigitalGojaUSA 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, haileyremillard. You don't need to program-in any specific settings to make the lens work with your D3500. But if you are noticing that when shooting at F/1.4 the focus is falling either in front of or behind the intended target then that's when you would perform the AF micro focus adjustment. But it's not required to make the lens work on your camera. The USB dock is also handy for updating the firmware of the lens, and that is a very easy process that Sigma's optimization pro software does automatically. Take care!
