saddleback.com/everydayheroes - Have you ever been given a gift that came with a tremendous amount of responsibility? Maybe it was a financial inheritance, the birth of a child, or your salvation in Christ - these are all gifts that must be carefully managed in order to fully mature. In this message at Saddleback Church, Pastor Jonathan "JP" Pokluda shares how the gift of singleness can be used to carry out good works and build God’s kingdom. In Part 2 of our series, Everyday Heroes, you’ll learn how singleness teaches us about the supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus and how to view it as a gift from God.

Great message! Such a perspective is so important in our culture. Contentment in singlehood is nearly a lost concept in this generation. Trust the giver. If what you have now is not good either God is not done or your perspective is off. Singlness teaches us Jesus is Supreme and He is sufficient.🌷💕🌟

If you were thirsty you would be looking for water. If you are hungry you are obsessed with food. I apologize to no one for wanting to be married. It is the will of God for human beings. That's why he created them male and female. If singleness was good he would have left Adam in the garden by himself. Single people are plagued by sexual frustration, anger, envy, lack of love and affection, lack of companionship, and years of unanswered prayers. Maybe Laura you will get to endure some decades of singleness.

There is no other message possible from the modern church today there are so many people not getting married and it is unthinkable for any church to help people to get married so what is left? Well only the amazing wonders of the single life message is left like you can hop on a helicopter whenever you want a completely foolish statement of course since singles have responsibilities in life too that can’t just be left behind. This speech is an encouragement to stay single longer than you should in life and when you are old and realize that you had no God given desire to stay single the consequences will be on your shoulders and no one will be there to help you. All I can say is be absolutely certain your singleness is a calling by God and not just a preacher convincing you of something that you will regret later.

I posted my Celibacy video on TSpeaks Live and I could not close this one for fear of my own video not uploading. I started watching it purely to get mine to post and now I know it was appointed by God that I should hear this message. Especially as I just finished saying on my own video how I long for intimacy with the one who will be my wife. Little did I realize I have been telling Jesus - You aren't enough. I repent today and will wait and be of good courage as I do. Bless you JP.....

Here as someone who is single and wishes he wasn't, but is fighting to frame this in trust. I mean, if God is a good God, and He gives good gifts, then the gift of singleness must be good too. Which is what JP was saying.
@missNCW
@missNCW 2 жыл бұрын
@@BaritoneMonkey then why didn’t he say that instead of saying that single people get self control as if that’s a substitute for sex?? It isn’t. Married people don’t have to have the control, there are allowed to want sex and have sex. The gifts are not equal. You should know that it’s not as simple as saying we ‘get’ self control. We HAVE to have self control - we don’t get relief however from desire. Married people do. Us being forced to have self control is not a gift. But sex in marriage is.

@@BaritoneMonkey and the gift of singleness comes with pain and frustration- let’s tell it like it is. When married people have problems- they are not called gifts. Adultery? Abuse? No. But when singles do their pain is pressured to feel like a gift when it’s painful. And married people with no understanding are encouraged to belittle our pain because singles like you belittle it as well. So they think we’ll it can’t be THAT hard to be sexually deprived for DECADES, but married people are validated when they say it’s difficult for a few weeks. Double standard and hypocrisy

Dear God🙏💗💕 ❤️💗❤️💗in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in the bible that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved. Right now I confess Jesus as my Lord. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Amen.

This is the big thing now in many churches, trying to convince you that you just don’t need to be married. Let’s face it your pain and suffering as you get old with no family or spouse means nothing, it’s just a matter of self control and finding something else to do and it’s all good. Sermons like this are well intended but often come from the fact that churches don’t know what to do with you and can’t really help you in your singleness so being single is good for anybody who comes along. This pastor has no understanding that some people will never do well in life single. He seems to think that he can just point to other happy singles and force their love of singleness on someone else. You can’t! Anyone that tries to tell me that singleness doesn’t bring all its own problems has no clue. I think it’s sermons that minimize the difficulties and hurt of singleness that end up pushing some singles away from the church instead of drawing them in. Very sad situation, words aren’t adequate.

How does this apply to people who are single parents? I understand that singleness is a gift but in this case it's without the power/availability to move as freely. Having a child is like a marriage, it's a commitment. What do you say to those who are in between both stages?

I disagree with Miss's comment. I'm sure there's plenty there. But you do ask a good question. Being a single parent is such a difficult thing, and I'm sure it can feel like a burden or a curse sometimes to have to do it without a partner.
@missNCW
@missNCW 2 жыл бұрын
@@BaritoneMonkey then tell us where there’s plenty instead of disagreeing just for the sake of it. I listen to a lot of advice from married pastors who don’t understand singleness and can’t tell you when they acknowledge single parents as having the same obligations as married people. Married couples are seen as the adults with ‘real’ responsibilities. Single people are like the children. Why do you think they don’t let single people preach to single people, since we’re supposedly the ones focussing more in God. Because married people think they’re more wise even they they use excuses to spend less time with God and more time having sex. Then take a break to belittle our desire for Godly sex IN marriage like they need it and we just want it.
@Jan-A
@Jan-A Жыл бұрын
Just imagine adding the responsibility of a spouse to that equation. A child grows up & moves out. You can always ask family or friends to help out with children temporarily. In any case, the child came because persons were either married or were playing married. So we also have to accept the consequences & live in that season also.

Married people have two salaries and single people are fed up with church because it is a club for married people. It is the place where you are reminded the most that you asked God for marriage but he didn't give it to you but gave it to other people and they are constantly throwing it in your face.

@@misss7758 Hmm Do you think God has forgotten those that are not married? Most people marry because of how they feel (warm and fuzzy feelings) not necessarily for God’s agenda (kingdom advancement). Does God not know what’s best for His people (meaning a suitable mate and at the right time)? Is the grass really greener on the other side (for those that are presently single? Or do singles continue to trust God and prepare mentally, emotionally, financially etc.. for their mate?
