Learn how to quickly yelp on a mouth call using the best method for building a solid foundation of mechanics. Starting with a single reed mouth call, will allow you to learn how to yelp well enough to call in gobblers quickly while also building solid fundamentals. Then moving to the double Reed no cut and focusing on how to present air to the mouth call using your diaphragm, allows you to learn the proper air control to produce realistic yelps. Finally going to a three Reed call with rasp and focusing on finding the sweet spot in the call to get that clean top end note of the Yelp and bringing in the rasp naturally by accelerating the air and reducing tongue pressure will have you making the most realistic yelps possible. Following this simple 3 step process eliminates all the bad habits that cause people to struggle with mouth calls.

Man this was the best calling video I’ve seen. Really broke it down what a yelp is supposed to sound like. Lot of guys out there putting out bad information

Appreciate it! I finally turned the corner this year and it was when I was standing next to a pro caller at NWTF and asked him what advice he has and to be brutally honest. All he said to me was “you are blowing the call, not huffing on it” That’s when I realized how critical air presentation is for a realistic Yelp and inspired me to make this video (after a ton of practice after the NWTF convention). I struggled for years due to all the bad information out there!

Thanks so much for this video. Called in a nice tom for my son on the youth opener with a mouth call and this is where i started. Best video for a beginner on youtube. I ordered some of your calls today due to seeing your responses on here trying to help folks. Its awesome. Happy to support a company that supports its customers. Keep it up and good luck this season.

Thank you for the knowledge of diaphragm calls I've always enjoyed turkey hunting as a kid &teenager! I always had someone with me to call which was nice to be able to just focus on hunting the turkey unfortunately it meant I never got to learn to call until I became an adult and purchased my own. I was completely clueless to what I was looking at I knew the different style calls I had used box or striker I just like the convenience of hands free calling you can do solo. Cut to the chase as my begining call I bout a triple reed with two I shaped cut out and another triple combo cut and taught myself so I'm very curious to go get a single or double NO CUT and see what I can practice doing better next like gobbling.

You are welcome! I always go back to the single Reed no cut anytime I am trying to learn new calls and work my way back up. Especially purrs and more of the finesse calls! I haven’t learned gobbling yet, so let me know how that goes! Thanks for the comment!

Guys, keep a call or two in your truck or car. Its the best place to practice. Everywhere you go, practice practice practice. This is a skill that is not totally necessary but is super fulfilling to get and does have some advantages in hunting situations. Don't get discouraged if it take's literally months. Nothing good happens fast.

@@WeekendWoodsmen is it possible to do purrs on this call?
@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 2 ай бұрын
@hillbillytrapperwestvirgin2722 absolutely it’s actually incredibly easy to. Pretty much any vocalization you want to make you should start on this to get the basics. At the end of the day I use this call 90% of the time when I am finishing a bird because it does everything you need.

In your experience, do you think this must be fairly mastered before actually hunting, will a mistake here or there send every bird within a mile running? I'm making progress but I do slip up here and there especially when first beginning a call.
@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen Ай бұрын
I sounded like crap when I first started hunting and was able to call birds in. You by no means need to have it mastered and I don’t think I have ever seen a bird take off running from one bad call. The most dangerous call is the cluck because that can sound like a putt, but you can still recover from it. Get out there and enjoy the learning process! Good luck!

i was wondering if a turkey will come to a call with no rasp like the single or double reed or should get good enough and be able to call with a 3 reed call with cuts to kill a turkey? Thank you for the video.
@WeekendWoodsmen
@WeekendWoodsmen 4 ай бұрын
They absolutely will come to a call with no rasp. In fact 90% of the time I am finishing a bird I’ve got the greenhorn or the sweet talker in because I can get so soft with it. A lot of people prefer rasp so many times it is a sweet sounding call that sets you apart from the crowd. I still have raspy calls just in case the birds mood calls for it but I’m using the easy to use calls more often than not. Thanks for the comment!

I feel like with mouth calls we spend the first line 6 years in different degrees of bad 🤣 I still have a long way to go myself, but it helps to teach it as I learn it, versus people that are so good they forget how to teach the basics in a way people can relate.
